I haven't played mine yet, I didn't realise it was here till I got in this morning or I'd have swung by the office last night to pick it up.

Not sure I'll be able to play it online either - I've got a debug console. Lonely gaming for me.

I'm just downloading update data for mine. Been a pretty arduous task so far, ballache attached to a debug console I guess. I've had to tweak a load of settings to get it online, based on directions from Sony.

Got a few minutes before I know if I can get on but my PSN username is alexgrantuk

its pretty good, handling is more realistic probably better with a steering wheel. the go carts are nuts. i have only really done the licences and a quick shot of the game.
i cant see where the 1000 cars are unless you have to download them or win them. but still will be a good game.

Massively disappointed in this, waited 3 years or so! The game uses the same
Engine as gt4 and is massively inferior to forza 3! I mean examples are that there's no clutch wtf! Also the fixed camera makes it feel like the track is moving not the car. The sensitivity of the controls is awful, who chooses to use x as a variable throttle? When modifying the cars it's too basic stage 1 and stage 2 malarky! Where's the brake upgrades, doubling the power and you can't even upgrade the brakes! :(

i agree with the brake upgrades!

Apparently you can, but not until later in the game with more experience.

Same with the handling/physics, abit samey with lower power cars, but once you get to the 'proper' cars and fairly indepth gameplay the physics come into their own and are on another level.

Wierd, but ... so im told. ;) ;D

i think your right cos if you go to tune when in the garage there is a part for brakes in there. i think you will unlock a few things later in the game, cos you have to unlock most of the cars. at the end of the day this game is not forza, some ways gt5 is better and some some ways forza is better.

Why does it occasionally drop out into a gay town scene or something and none of the buttons do owt? I keep having to restart the game.

Add me for GT5 thrills. Mon PS3 name est 'biggie-wiggie'

Sounds like the network issue mate, disconnect from PSN or get your NAT settings changed and it should be fine.

i just noticed last nite that you can play your own music from your ps3 when in a race, thought i'd let you know incase you didn't.

and has anyone got a race car i could borrow for a couple hours to do my GT allstars race in the pro races?

Don't think much of it tbh. Just seems like prologue with a tiny bit added here and there. No idea where the other cars are but pretty annoyed that they're not there. Where's the G40?

i'm a bit disappointed with GT5 to be honest, after my xbox 360 decided to die (red ring of death) i got a PS3 for my birthday from the missus and got it with GT5, currently 45% through the game.

Got to admit that i rate Forza 3 on the xbox better than GT5.

What lets GT5 down is the modifications, can't do anything to brakes, engine conversions would be good, on forza you can fit different engines into to cars.

Weather changes and graphics are parts that GT5 does well and are better than Forza.

I'll certainly be buying another xbox in the near future as Forza 4 will be coming out soon!!!!

Rocket- you can do brakes once you get good enough  ;)

Damage comes in later too, apparently once level 30+ the game is utterly different.

Forza is more arcady whereas GT has always been more geeky. I think GT has hit the spot with the driving physics though.

I mustve done something wrong as I still can't find one car to do a race :(

Really? feels just like GT4 to me - sims like GTR and rFactor (as totally nerdy as they are) feel much better and give back so much satisfaction to a perfect lap compared to GT for me

What level do need to be for brakes?

I am on level 23 currently.

Think 30, but it varys depending what forum you believe...

You've been geeking on it loads over Xmas!!!

Justin- try it with all driver aids off (just ABS on 1) and everyhting becomes much harder/more realistic.

I must admit, as good as it is, the wait isn't justified.
Title: Re: GT5

Been geeking for about 8 days in total as we been out and about most of the time. Few hours here and there always add up i guess.

Currently have 3 million squids in the account! You get loads when you do the seasonal events!

Bought it at the weekend. I think its a really good game. Only on level 9 but i struggle to find certain cars for races, or trucks. Keep looking in the used section but nothing comes up. Or when it does come i have no money.

Has anyone got that X1?

if your stuck for a car, give me a shout when am online and tell me what race you want to do and i will give you the car i did mine with. best car i found to do the majority of my races with was the lambo murcielago ( the best one), fully tune it with the best tyres and all aero mods. this will see you through most of the game, it even rivals the race cars on twisty tracks.

Really?

I found the Murciélago really twitchy and un-predictable  ???

I had everything bar the aero parts done, do they make a big difference? Aids are all off except ABS on 1.

I'm using a fully tuned RS6 (954bhp if I recall correctly) now which I'm finding fun:

the gallardo is twitchy but if you put the aero parts on the murcielago and racing soft tyres its pretty good. you dont need tc with this as it just bogs it down coming out the corners.

Can't put aero bits on my Muircélago as its one of the "Chrome Line" cars and it ways they are not available for it  ::)

How you get 954 bhp? I bought everything for mine and i only managed 891bhp.
Title: Re: GT5
Post by: vwmk3jon on January 22, 2011, 09:17:45 pm
I find cars will have a certain bhp but when you change screens the bhp level will rise or fall.

yeah i have noticed that too. Also in the special events, the rally one says for cars up to 256 iirc but on the settings it says 257 or something.

Not sure, its 956 actually now that I check  ???

Have you changed the oil? That adds a few BHP if it was dirty beforehand  :D

Mines only 891bhp too :( will have to have another look.

Anyone got any news on the elusive G40s that are supposed to be on the game?

anyone use the steering wheel for this?
i got one last week and its bloody ace. takes a wee bit to get used to with it twitching everywhere but give it a couple hours and you won't look back. its far easier to control and gives you better lap times.

What steering wheel are you using?

I want to get one for it but am not sure which one to get, I used to have one way back on the original playstation and it was much better than using the pad.

When you are buying a new car replace the oil, it gives a few bhp... :D
Title: Re: GT5

What steering wheel are you using?

the GT one from argos, (logitec force GT) £81 this was made for GT5. if you get one you will never go back to the controller.
the best setting i found for the wheel is simulation and no power steering and leave the feedback at 5,
otherwise it is far to twitchy.  i've not mastered the gears yet but all in good time.
but beware the throttle is more real and with back wheel drive cars you cant floor it round a corner or you just spin.
