Title: Club G40 Rolling Road
Post by: PeteG40 on August 10, 2010, 10:04:39 am
Hi - we are looking at organising the next rolling road day, to take place late October, early November (before it gets too cold!!)

What normally happens is we get there early, mooch about talking cars - run your car if you want, keep warm with a few brews.  Then for those who want we book a local hotel, have a bite to eat and go out for a few drinks (and usually a club)

We have used both before and both come heartily recommended.  Aldon does one power run at £25 measures power at wheels and estimates at fly and John Sleath does 3 in close succession at £35 and measures at wheels.

Aldons road maxes out at 250 bhp at the wheels, whereas John Sleath is 4wheel drive and is good for huuuge HP.

So - which do people prefer - Aldon Automotive - West Midlands - night out in brum/wolverhampton

or

John Sleaths - Doncaster way - night out in Sheffield??

We do need about 15-20 cars to run and for those interested we'll charge £10 paypal deposit to avoid people saying 'yeah i'll come' and not turning up, as then the club won't get its deposit back!.

Pete

John Sleath gives power at wheels doesn't he?  Since flywheel figures are theoretical only on a wheel dyno.

I don't mind organising this again with John if we decide to go there. I've not spoken to Aldon but I presume the older chap is out of hospital now etc?

John can also plot boost pressure & AFR on your graph, which I know aldon can't, but we do have lots of data for runs at Aldon in the past.

I'm up for this, but I'm actually gonna put money aside this time rather than get to the weekend and find I'm at the bottom of my overdraft like I did last year :(

Only 11 people have voted, but that doesn't mean that more people don't want to come - they might not care where it's held. I don't mind either way, would come to either!

i am up for this but only at aldon, for me they are very consistant and as yoof said we have lots of previous power data with them for good comparisons.

I'm interested in putting mine on. Don't mind where. :) Would lean towards aldon though as I've been a few times and they give at the wheels and at the flywheel figures don't they?

Gaz - John Sleath will show you an at flywheel figure too, but he's reluctant to stick it on the print-out - possibly to avoid anyone accusing his dyno of under/over-estimating the transmission losses.

As I see it, the main benefit of Aldon is lots of historic data for comparison purposes - though Club G40 were at John Sleath Racing last year, so there's some info there too. In favour of John Sleath Racing is multiple runs - and John's often happy for you to swap ECUs (to try a different chip) or tweak the ignition timing slightly inbetween runs.

Ah I did wonder about that - I did want to see what difference one of Alan's 8k chips makes. Alhough I've already fitted it now and only have the 1 ECU, don't really fancy taking my ECU to bits in the car park. :)

Fair enough about the 'at the fly' figures. Aldon's figures do vary quite alot from memory. Some GTs were loosing 20bhp through the transmission while others (like mine and yoofs IIRC) were loosing 30 or so.
