Title: 085 Gearbox shift mechanism removal...
Post by: Keppel on June 15, 2010, 08:33:12 pm
i'm in the middle of an 085 gearbox stripdown and rebuild.

I have the box split, but I cant get the inpuyt and output shafts out of the casing because the shif mechanism is in the way.

I don't know how to remove it, The shaft that the mechanism is mounted to looks like it is threaded or pressed into the casing, there is a female m7 thread in the end of the shaft visible from the outside of the casing.

is there a special extraction tool, or will a slide hammer work to remove it, or do i need to lock a nut and bolt against is and unscrew it.

any advice would be much appreciated.

cheers

yeah there's an aluminium dowel pressed into the casing which holds the bar in the middle of the shift mechanism.  It has a tapped hole in it so you can screw a screw in and use a slide hammer.
