Title: eibach springs and koni dampers combo
Post by: eppo on March 21, 2010, 12:23:55 am
Hi! i have purchase a pro kit eibach springs, and i m thinking to buy some koni dumpers because i think eibach springs and stock bumpers  are a bit  bumpy :-\. My question is, if i mount koni with the eibach springs i can resolve the problem. thanks

konis are much harder than standard dampers, but eibach/koni is a good combination. Offers some compliance and comfort but takes corners well.  I used it for 2-3 years - the eibach only lower by about 5-10mm though

Tanks Pete for the help! :)
In my case, the springs lower my car in 15mm on front and 10mm on the rear. but with konis i think you can put in a lower possition in the rear?   ???

i m thinking cut a bit of the springs to get the 30mm ...i dont know if that is a good ideia but......    i want a bit more lowest :P

I reccommend doing a bit of backround reading before cutting springs, as it will effect your spring rating for the length of travel, and as they are progressive springs it just complicates it further.  If your running standard geometory then maybe a set of lowering top caps may give yoyu the desired stance??

how many mm will low with lowering top caps?
Title: Re: eibach springs and koni dampers combo

they say about 10-15mm, i fitted to my G40, but due to my increased castor angle with my subframe, the lowered caps were rubbing the front edge at the top of the inner wing where the  mounts are.
 :(
So I'm back running stanadard hieght eibachs now, and I feel that the extra 10-15mm drop did give the car more front end grip and better traction, so cutting was in the back of my mind, but wouldn't advise it as not done it myself and wouldn't want you to wreck a set of springs on my say so.  Though i gotta say that when loaded the bottom 2/3coils on the eibachs are resting on each other anyway, so from that perspective cutting 1 off would drop you about 8mm and 'probably' :-\ not effect the spring operation at all.

Comments/thought's??

I've the same springs. At the begining with Koni coilovers, now with Bilstein B6. The Bilstein are far away better and more confortable!

Were they standard G40 springs that you cut??  As these aren't progressive, they are quite a firm spring too, so I'm interested to know results!?

How is the ride? Bouncy/firm or just the same but lower?

hi! I decided to slightly increase the regidez of suspensions, but to my amazement the suspension increased a little, maybe 0.5 cm, is this possible? With increasing regidez of  suspension, the own car gets a little louder?

I'm personally against cutting springs, but I have to admit I like the stance on that!

On the 4th pic up! Have you put the wider bush of the rear Koni`s pointing towards the hubs.
Only it looks to be on a fair lean.

Nice car and stance looks good even though its too low for me.

Fred.

there is some serious porn in this thread, i would how that dudes g60 project is going.

the g on the konis sits really well and should handle really with the koni/eibach setup and r888's, that will be a hoot on the dry roads where you are!

surely if the springs are "coilbound" cutting 1 coil will make no difference to handling or rate of spring , it will just lower the thickness of 1 coil
many race cars run loose springs on coilovers (when raised up) they cause no handling issues
cutting springs is not ideal but if done properly and in the right circumstances i dont see it as a problem
