this site is very slow and dead...what's up guys? i know we have jobs and lives outside a forum but it seems very stale here? i feel i post posts along a with a few others just to keep it ticking over ha ha. besides the point... need we advertise the club a bit more? i'm also disapointed with the number of people saying they will come to the g40 rally in august?! surely more people can come than the 6 or 7 currently claiming they will come. i know g40's are few and far between and let us not forget many will be owned by people who wont even use a computer! but that image we saw a while back of the portugease turn out was impressive...can we not be inspired by such things?!

it seems a bit cheeky just putting a thread on clubpolo advertising this place. since I've kind of ended up helping them get the server sorted out it might also seem like some kind of abuse of power of something if I did it. I've no objection to someone else starting a thread though! Although no doubt someone on there will moan about it.
Otherwise, I'll take the club banner to BVF and see if we get any interest. What other ideas does anyone have ofr getting the club more well known?

Alot of the G40 owners still post on CP (me included), and theres still loads of G40 specific posts on there, which should really be on here! I think we need to get more of a community feeling on here but it comes with time I guess. But things like the G40 Rally will really help out.
I would come to the Rally but not sure if the car will be working lol

I've stopped posting on CP since this place came about. Sick of people talking trash over there, and anything useful I can pick up from threads here anyway. Otherwise I'm wading through threads about rat look Mk4s and stretched tyres. YAWN.

i only follow 3 or 4 threads at the minute. might go and recruit that miglo fellow with the eaton conversion.
its the first thread in ages where I have been genuinely interested in what happens. I picked up quite abit of knowledge, like to think I helped him out too. Also abit of ingenuity which is always a good thing.

yeah im bored of CP to many people on there with no taste and cant take a bad opinion. and i want to hear about proper conversion with more details!
i know there is a facebook clubg40 thing but is there a myspace bebo shit may help advertise!
and also if you want more people who are interested in proper modification and stuff try not to put such big threads your self on other forums like CP maybe try and put smaller posts with a pic and then put a link to the full thread on here!
also when any one ask's for technical advise on g40's always point them in this direction for the answer instead of replying the answer on other forums.
and try changing your avatars to the clubg40 banner on any forums you use for a month or so?

good ideas there. well i've changed my avatar as advised and will start pointing people to here when advise is needed for g40's...i think quite a fw people just still don't know about the site.

Simple, go on all the VW sites, find G40 owners and PM them about the club. Simular with ebay: find any specific G40 parts or cars, wait until bidding has ended and it will state the winner - PM them. Also if you have your website address on your profile, google does a search and the club address moves the listings. So register on other clubs and under pics of ya car put www.polog40.co.uk.
The other thing you should do is flyer G40 at shows. There should be a downloadable page where you can print off flyers. Adverts in magazines cost a lot - expect to pay over 150 quid even for a small one.

Getting sick of CP. Same old, same old!
Dont get me wrong i wouldnt stop using CP completely but i would much rather converse with the members on here.
I personally dont think that too many members is a good thing, although maybe a few more would make for a better ryhthem with the posts and threads..

I think most people on this site are regular visitors, but don't feel the need to discuss everything going on in there life away from there G40's so I guess its safe to say when were not typing on here we're out enjoying our motors, well I am!!

well when this was posted i agree it was quiet, but it has picked up greatly in last few weeks, i find myself checking back more and more, and posting more!

I'm on here every day! There are only three forums I check daily, and they're all about as quiet as this place. Makes things so much simpler when you don't have to sift through ten pages of wank threads to get to something worth reading.

I don't think it's cheeky in the slightest, we all love polo's so a bit of cross club advertising has to be a good thing? :D

The amount of people having G40s is a little than other polos, so we are a small group, and i find it reasonable to be quiet...

I'm really pleased to see the change since i first posted this thread! the website is picking up nicely and replies appear much quicker than before. same old faces i know but its all good! you know what i'd like to see in the off topic section? just for a laugh is a moaning section. Basically where you can moan about the most stupid of things...dan knight about his mates down royal mail...me about teenagers and their gt's..pete about not getting his g40 on an oap insurance policy scheme (sorry mate just kidding) etc etc...just for a laugh. would make a good read..let's face it we all love a good moan...

Ok so i was doing my usual thing and milling around - stumbled across this thread so thought id better sign up and stop being my usual illusive self lol :D
my name is Rob, Im from essex and i have a cute little red G40. Ive owned it for around 4 years now (I think... grrr god dam shitty memory lol) Spends most of its time in the shed feeling unloved. And before this one i had another red g for a couple of years - which Henry now ownes.
Im gonna stop here as i feel like i should be in an alcaholics annonimus meeting LOL

I've been a regular on CP since the Porka days.
However, IMO there are fewer and fewer decent, interesting projects and knowledgable people on there now. Basically I think its because there are a lot more people on there now, many of them very young with the Polo as their first car. Typically, a lot of them are more into what looks good (or "scene") rather than being technically interested. I can understand that, but its all the shit that goes with it that gets on my tits.
Most just want to talk about fitting 175/50 tyres on 8" wheels, and "slamming" the suspension. Then there's bullshitting about being quicker than a Saxo VTR in their 6n 1.4 8 valve and generally slating anything non VAG (in particular anything French) unless its a supercar or something.
I really hope this site can take off from where the old PSD one left off. It certainly seems to be heading that way which can only be good.
I look on here everyday now and try and post if I can help out, or need advise.
I've also recently discovered Retro Rides. Now this is a brilliant site that has some fantastic build threads. Highly recommend this one to anyone interested in the old modified stuff.

i thought id add my two pence, I think this forums great, granted its a little slow (but there arent really that many g40's left, plus not everyone is on an internet forum) also on here when you do ask questions you get good info :D

This site is tons better than cp. I'm sorry i had to say that, but i feel its true. I'm a complete novice mechanically and every thread i've posted up asking a question which is probably very simpe to some people, gets answered and broken down for me to understand so thanks guys (& girls!)
searching through a page of threads which are basically asking the same question is so f'in boring! I soon revert back to here as the info i read is alot more useful to me (although compression ratios are still way above my head!)
i meant to make it to the rally but our finances said otherwise. Was well cheesed off that i had to abandon the idea too.
Already started to point people on cp this way when asking a G related question. Hopefully we can draw more people in and create an atmosphere to our own liking.

I'm all for serious but not all the time, hence why I use other forums on a more regular basis

I am also not the only G40 owner with this opinion, just so you are aware.
Where is the rolling day and how much is it?
I don't really want to road until my charger has been serviced but I am very tempted :)

sorry people feel like that. It may be that people's meaning doesn't always carry in written as opposed to spoken word - or that a number of us already know each other from shows etc over the years...
but events such as the rolling road day allow some time for people to put faces to names and have a good craic. I'm looking forward to meeting new people.
The rr day is £25 a run at aldon automotive in the west midlands - brierley hill. The only other thing to stress is while we (people who work on club g40 behind the scenes) put some of the organisation in, events such as the Peaks Rally we did and this RR day are only a success if members make them so...

I agree it is civilised and it a great forum for information and learning for 40 virgins like myself
It's my opinion on how this forum is and how some people comes across, hence why I am attending the rolling day to see if it changes my opinion and it's good to put names to faces and meet members
I think most personal clubs are the same though from what I've heard from numerous VW owners

I wouldnt say unapproachable is true at all. I ask questions here as my car skills are seriously scary, i dont know most of the people if i saw them in the street yet they take time to answer my questions which is more than you get from cp at times!
