Title: 14'' BBS rims
Post by: Alexiskayak_7 on June 13, 2008, 10:50:39 pm
Does anybody has a G40 with 14'' BBS rims? Do you see any improvements in handling-braking?

Sharper handling and response, and a lot less scrubing of tire edges(195/45/14 Falken ZE512).

I'm all for 14's on a Mk3 Polo with 195/45's or 185/50's.  Lower the car 60/40 with an H&R Cup Kit and you'll have a good looking car, with good ground clearance, nice arch gap, no rubbing, scrubbing or horrible crashing noises and it should handle well.  You'll be able to carry passengers and if it's your bag you'll be able to tackle some nice undulating roads without fear of ripping your cat brace off.  Added bonus you can fit 256mm brakes and your Polo will then actually stop well.

175/50 on a 13"x7J wheel lowered 60/40 looks the dogs danglies, but not really practical at all...heard too many bits of car making contact with the ground for me to ever consider it.

15" wheels are the devil.

One last question... Do i loose in acceleration and braking?

Not if you keep the same rolling radius, ie the 185/50 or 195/45 tyre size.

ive tried all sorts of combos, ran std bbs 13s on 155/70s, not great, 13s on 175/60s - found them too rolly,  14s on 165/55s, liked that setup loads, 14s on 185/55s found them to wide for my liking and at the moment ive settled on 15s running 165/50s which ive found to be the most fun of the lot

15'? They make the car slightly slow?

Personally, switching from 15s to 14s, both with 195/45 tyres, I didn't notice much difference in acceleration.

why would they? the rolling radius is only 2.9mm larger than that of a std wheel and tyre, so makes bugger all difference

I am looking for the 14'' BBS rims ( that look the same with original G40 ones) here in used parts stores here in Greece and i only find 15'' BBS rims.. Does anyone has pictures from 14'' rims. Also do you know from what car are the from?

                                                                 Thank you, Alex...

15" wheels are the devil.

Are they fuck. I was very happy with how my car behaved on 15s.

I think its more a case of the correct setup for the wheels used, when retro fitting any non stanard wheel things like suspension geometory/rolling diameter of tire used/offset of wheel/width of rim/weight of wheel & tire/plus weight of car itself, all play a major part of the equation.
It too easy to fit cheap wheel/tire combo's to match a budget(or image) and end up screwing up a good well balace chassie.

The standard 16V Golf 15" BBS RA have the same mounting as standard G40 13" BBS RA and go straight on with the original bolts. The 14" BBS RA sold as accessories have about a 5mm thicker mounting face and need longer wheel bolts. 14" x 6J Scirocco alloys ('scala' I think) will bolt straight on and clear 256mm brakes.

I run on bss 14's with 195/45 tyres. i had 15's with 195/45 on when i brought the car handling is the same as the 14's but accelaration is a lot better with the 14's. slow turning or parking is a lot stiffer and a lot more work with the 15's but not with 14's. 13's are my choice of size of rim with 175/50 tyres and slammed to the floor great handling but a very hard ride and lots of contact with the road.

do you happen to know the part numbers or codes for the difference on these, so know you have found the right ones ?

well i run 70mm lower with 195/45/14. no scuffage even with people in back. great handling but my suspention is to hard for the roads round my area.

The Capri Green G has 13" 6j et33 wheels, its my car (sold to Milgo then bought back). No idea what the wheels were originally off, i have some 14" RA's now but need some tyres.
What tyres are on the 14" RA's in the middle? 185 50 14?
