Post by: bbspolo on August 14, 2009, 11:15:14 am
whats required 2 build a 1.5 g40 and what are they like? What sort of power do they make with a fully ported g-ladder, head etc and whats the drive like?

or is there any other combos ppl have built before?
just trying 2 make my mind up as 2 what way im gonna go with my 40 build!
I would like 2 keep a g-ladder on there but see high numbers!  ;D

Crank from a Diesel Polo (1W) and 77 mm bore pistons made for the extra stroke. Power depends on charger, pulley size and headwork. 190+ bhp is common

is it 77m pistons that are used to make the 1341cc conversion?
if so i could build a 1.5 and if it proved 2 be a bit flat just swap the crank out and go down 2 a 1341cc????

Nope not the same pistons, they are a different height due to the longer stroke on the 1.5

Do most people use the petrol or the diesel rods? I gather the gudgeon pin is a different dia? Or are the standard rods too long?

So it a deisel crank, g40 block rods and custom pistons! Can get u 1500cc??
Do g40's have oil jets in the block as standard?
What about gboxes  :'(  phil was telling me about one off belhousings that u can fit 02a's ??
Or can a standard box be beefed up 2 take it?
If not ill just make it all quick realise and carry phill in the boot for quick gearbox changes! pmsl
(might hurt my curb weight a bit though) sorry phill!  ;D

What other conversions are there (i know of 1341cc) and what is generaly considered the best comprimise?
Im looking for 200-220 bhp keeping a g-ladder (g40 or 60)
and a curb weight of 720-740kg (over 300hp per ton  ;) ) Should be enough 2 show my mate ditching his g40 for a m3 was a bad move lol!

I think those gearbox adaptors are rare and super expensive.

Cant remember the company who make them but it's some german company, they are very expensive though plus you need to make custom mountings, shift linkage, driveshafts etc... will come to thousands.

I don't think you'll break the 200bhp barrier with a 40mm g-lader, I've never seen it done.  A g60 blower on a 1W cranked engine should be pretty impressive though.

aye that's the one, it's Sorg Motorsport who make it then.  Actually cheaper than I remembered it being but still looking at a fair bit more money to actually get the box working on a car

Think you have probably seen a more recent advert than that Haysey, i saw this not so long ago and it was over 1000 euro iirc. As you say though - gonna be way more than just the cost of that adaptor bell housing and hassel too. The ultimate build might consider it but other than that i would just keep rebuilding the ATV every so often and maintaining it well!
