Title: G40 stalling/idle problem.
Post by: cheddarcheese on July 07, 2009, 03:38:41 pm

i can get my G to idle  and if i accelerate threw the rev range its fine but i let it go to idle or i let my foot of the accelerator the revs drop way below 500rpm and stalls even if i hold the revs at around 1500rpm and let of the accelerator it still tries to stall and stalls. the only way i can get it to idle is if i bring the revs down slow.

They engine has been sat in a unit for a year or so before i installing it and has a brand new alternator.

any ideas

cheers

when it does idle, what rpm does it idle at?

might also be worth making sure that the holes in the throttle plate aren't leaking.

What would you suggest hayesey if i was running a standard t/b?

mines exactly the same got a second hand isv but dont know if i will bother now if it never worked for you, when it does idle hayesey it sits about 1000rpm.  Could you explain a bit more about this throttle plate.

cheers guys

when it idles its about 1000rpm. i have no idea what to look at when it comes to to the throttle body as it was apparently a Dewedged throttle body when i brought the engine.

any pictures links?

i do have the opportunity to pinch some parts from my m8's none running G due to Charger oil seals gone just to see if any parts are fecked.

jon - your problem could just be down to needing remapping.  Hard to say really, could do with knowing what the fuelling is like when it happens.  I had similar issues with mine when it was too lean at idle.

this is a picture of a throttle body:

those screws on the throttle plate hold the wedges on, when you remove the wedges these holes need sealing up or it wont idle properly.

by looking at that i think mine is a standard throttle body .

so does it still have the wedges on the throttle plate or is the plate just flat?

it still has the wedges.

yeah, i should think the lack of BVH & aquamist doesnt help when the chips suited to it.

Yeah that will make the engine run lean down low

Trying to pull away is dodgy to say the least! Its almost like its got a fuel defiency and then suddenly wham, the power picks up. Need them wiping off the chip really.

Deffo the map on the chip.

tbh, you'll get a bit of that with the eaton as its all top end power

surely not as bad as mine though? Its like my 1st ever car, the carb would get shit in it and cause me to be stuck at 5mph. thats what it feels like! sometimes i can drive through it, sometimes it stalls.

sounds like it's running lean at the bottom end.

1341 g40 eaton i drove was like a gt/stock g40 pulling away, then you got to 4k and it went like stink, only to change and be the same... mind you car was a bag of spanners

yeah I wouldn't judge it by that one you had pete, I dread to think what the fuelling on that was like.  Seeing as how the "remap" on it seemed to consist of an adjustable fuel pressure reg.

This pulls away like a stock cube! 5/6mph max!

Hayesey's car was deffo in need of mapping - yours may be the same. I'd only commit to spending money on a remap once you're 100% sure that everything else is in good health though.

im gonna get the coil changed along with the pulley to a vernier but ive gotta get it working first so i can get the bottom end checked to make sure its not fubared! injectors, plugs, gaskets, sensors are all new.

A compression tester should only cost £20-£30, that'll tell you a lot about the bottom end. Did you sort the suspected alternator problem?

mine used to be the same. i cleaned the ISV out and checked the CO pot. we adjusted the screw on the t/b too and it ran better.

Little bit late but my G40 has exactly the same problem it's super annoying.

Mine is completely standard and all I've done is replace fuel tank (needed doing anyway).

Anyone got any closer to fixing problem?
