Title: Fuel gauge is wrong!
Post by: Justin14100 on April 21, 2009, 11:09:38 pm
Had 2 different clocks now, both never went down all the way, it sits on the line before red!

Anyone have any ideas?

be the sender unit in the tank.  All are different though.  I normally just tank up, drive 300 miles, tank up again.

yeah none of them are very accurate, I've run out of petrol loads of times in mk3 polos because of it!

i get 300 to a tank - if you get 210 you either cane it or you have a sensor gone or a poor condition engine

I always used to think "how do people manage to run out of fuel?".

Was a valid arguement until I did it in the Sierra last year :D

I blamed a dodgy gauge

did mine last week after running out again, i removed the sender unit and bent the float to a new position, works fine now, it took me about 20 attempts and well over an hour to get it right

I think I need to do that as well, it seems to read ok above half a tank but once it gets much below half a tank it seems to just stop reading properly.

my GT and G fuel gauges never gave me a problem. Always seemed to be acurate right down to the last drop. I know this because i used to be a very poor student who only put £5er in, a £10er if i was feeling flush, and it was always on the money!

Know the feeling of only putting £5 in! haha

Think i'm going to remove the sensor from my old mk3 fox, that was v. accurate and went right down to the little stick!

I've just bought my first 40 and the fuel gauge doesn't work. I've had a new tank put in it too, and checked the resistance from the ball cock sender unit when it was out and it was working, well it was giving me some resistance when i moved the arm up and down, put it all back in and back together and it still doesn't work.  >:(

Apart from literally going along all the wiring through the car, has anyone got an ideas in how to find the problem, i was also gonna try another set of clocks to see if it was that too but haven't sourced any yet.

Any feedback will be appreciated.
Thanks!
