Title: Alternator problem, or something else?
Post by: krudler on February 15, 2009, 01:18:17 pm
Hi,
My g40 died on me the other day, because the battery wasn't charging.  So the first suspect is the alternator rectifier or bushes etc.  However, the red battery light doesn't come on when I first switch the car on, or at any other time.  This makes me think that the problem may be elsewhere, but I'm not sure where.

Any ideas?

It may be that the battery is not that great, but it does seem to have a reasonable no-load (engine off) voltage of 12.5V or so.

I've now removed the alternator, and I'll try replacing the regulator and brush pack, as it's pretty cheap.  If that doesn't work I'll have a rethink.
