Title: Worlds slowest project
Post by: Caskill on July 04, 2018, 11:02:01 am
I thought that seeing as there doesn't seem to be many project threads getting updated this past couple of years that I might share mines with you seeing as I'm hopefully going to be making a bit more progress with it in the coming months  ;D

Basically I bought the car when I was 19 all the way back in 2013 (definitely doesn't seem 5 years ago ::) ) I'd wanted one for years and to be honest when I seen this one I wasn't going to bother buying it because it wasn't the tidiest, but I fell in love with it as soon as I drove the thing.

Here it is (was) when I got it

Unfortunately soon as i got it there was problems, Hall sender failed in the dizzy then i couldn't get the timing set up by anybody after i changed it and being a very green 19yo i just ended up running it for a few weeks with horrendously bad spark timing and ended up cooking piston 4. I was too skint to do anything with it so ended up pulling the engine out and leaving it lying in my parents garden for about 18 months before i got a council garage and chucked it in there.

I managed to get the engine built up in 2016 however, got an old PY bottom end and fully rebuilt it with new shells, rings, oil pump etc, rebuilt head with shrick cam, GT inlet, a home made 51mm TB, DIY ported charger and a home made vernier pulley. Did the flushed rocker cover myself too 8)

Since then I've been pretty busy with work and buying a house (and also another project that's been taking up space) but i finally got the shell out to my house a few weeks ago and started having a good poke around it ready to get it welded and in paint. Ive never done any welding on body work before so its going to be a bit of a learning curve, hopefully if anyone still goes on here they will be able to give me a bit if advice  ;D

Great to see a new 'project/build' on here.. I look forward to seeing more progress.  8) 8)

Looks like you've got a pretty cool garage setup going on too!

Nice garage, I think I've got you beat on the world's slowest project though, mine's not moved out of the garage in 14 years.

Cheers chaps ;D the garage is getting there! Been in the house about a year now but it’s not easy stocking up on everything you need when youve been using your dad’s gear for the past 8 years haha. 14 years neil! Hopefully mines will make the road in less time than that, although at this rate im not too sure  ::)

Unfortunately between being away on holiday and tearing apart my living room I havent had much of a chance to get at the polo :( however before i went off I managed to get it all jacked up on some overly beefy axle stands and started cutting into the O/S sill and quickly discovered that I've a fair task ahead.

Will probably be focusing on getting my living room redone over the next few weeks but will maybe see some more progress before christmas  ;D (maybe)

Cheers
