ditto.  Any big brand 10w/40 semi synth is fine in my opinion.

Just stay away from things like "tesco value oil", which does exist believe it or not!

Newt but quantum synta silver 10w40.

Don't change brands to keep cost down, unless you are using some stupidly expensive stuff which claims the world.

Well...
I use two type of oil...
In winter i use 10w-40 modul turbolight it seems ok in cold days and i have good oil presure and the oil temp, is getting barely over 100C...

In summer i use 15w-50 4100 modul... some people here say it's quite 'thick' oil to use for a g40 engine... BUT with 10w-40 in hot days (when temp becomes more than 35C) the oil temp was struggling to drop 98C and it usually acheaves temps approximatelly 120C and i have totally NO oil pressure... Sometimes cause of the lack of oil, the hydraulic tappets start to knoking and the oil buzzer/light was  turning on!
So i used 15w-50... The oil temp was still 98C BUT at least i had good oil pressure...

An oil cooler it's a must in warm days, but a 'thicker' oil can prevent the lack of oil at the top of the engine...

Anyone with Motul 300V Competition 15W50?  ???

Seems like nice oil. I am using it on my G and changing it every 3000 miles. Daily G, 65, chip, oil cooler, K&N, GT inlet.  It was one of the best I could find on the market. ::)
Some recommendations from you guys?  ::) :)

Some info: http://www.intakeone.com/Denso/Motul300V.html

Thanks :)

I know this is old but im confused

Guy from opie oils told me to use 5w 50 fully synthetic. But as far as im aware the oil will be too thin during start up as manufacturer recommends 10w and the too thick during operating temrature

i use the vw qauntum stuff at the moment, but i dont rate it as under hard loads and hot oil it brakes down casuing the oil buzzer to go on under light cornering, wheras if i were to take the same corner with colder oil it doesnt come on

shall i try 5w 50?  Or get a high qaulity 10w 40 semi?

Stick with a high quality 10w/40.

Stick with a high quality 10w/40.

thanks for confirming that, i did think recommending 5w 50 was strange

been reading... Lots and found some decent stuff. Motul 300v 10w 40 fully synthetic double ester
people highly rate it.
apparantly esters are very resistant against extreme pressure and heat making it perfect for oils
one guy did a track day in his 350z on his normal oil and took down the average pressure and oil temp readings
he then drained and refilled with the motul and found pressure to be slightly higher as well 8 degrees lower temps
he also found that cool down was much faster when leaving the car for a few minutes in between breaks on the track
its double ester fully synthetic so it cleans the engine 30% better than semi synthetic
also esters are molecules and have the capability to stick to metals when the engine is off and providing maximum protection during start up
ester are virtually shear proof. What that means is even in oil temps that peak to 150 degrees and 130 running temps. It will still remain in its viscocity range and wont break down resulting in oil pressure drops (so will sort that buzzer going off under hard cornering)

Also this may sound insane but people have run dyno after dyno on cars with standard semi synthetic and the without moving the car, changed the oil to 300v and run another 10 dyno runs and on average found a 16hp gain, that was on a 365bhp mustang though

though its not all benifits, being ester oil it has to be changed more often. Every 6k depending on driving, and when its £70 for four litres!! But i dont mind paying that, even if mine is my daily

im going to be sending my current qauntum oil off to blackstone labs for analysis and see what my engine wear levels are then do a run on the 300 and send it off

thought you might be interested as it sounds ideal for your turbo tracks days robin as you do hammer that crap out of it lol
