Title: Exhaust... knocking
Post by: rocore on January 21, 2009, 06:48:26 pm
Changed the rear exhaust bungee last week as the old one was nearly worn out and stretched... Now the new one is on the exhaust knocks on the bottom of the car when going over bumpy ground... Seems as though the mid section is flexing? but its not blowing anywhere?!

Not a huge issue but one of those little things that really grind you down!

have you still got the little bump stop in between the two back exhaust hangers?

yep, still there. Seems like it is flexing in the middle... just below handbrake area...

What diameter are you running? Clearances get pretty critical at the 60mm mark.

Running standard system at the moment. Think i need to get the car up and have a proper gander underneath.

Check the joint between the catalyst section and the middle section. This sits just above the transmission tunnel brace. The exhaust clamp at the joint can hit the brace as the engine moves.

Believe it or not.... All the problem was, was the U-bolt connector was put on upside down and knocking like hell.

Turned round, problem solved and its like driving a different car!
