i will have a timing light tomorrow and im going to check the ignition timing. what im unsure about is the exact procedure, as in... do you unplug the blue temp sensor? is there something like that that has to be done?

dan after we spoke I read into this as I am doing it on my the G's on saturday.
Get the car at normal operating temp then turn it off.
Unplug the hall sender
Manually turn the crank pulley until you line up the timing marks
Reconect the plug and connect the light to Cyl1.
Then your good to go
When you do this make sure all the electrics etc are turned off.
And make sure you mark the dizzy timing before you start so you can always go back if it goes horribly wrong

ok thanks for that. why do you need to unplug the hall sender?

according to the haynes its to disconnect the engine.
Maybe it still measures when the ignition is off. Maybe for when you turn the car off but the engine still turns over for a second.

you unplug the blue temp sender with the engine running and up to temp to put the ecu into service mode. You do this when setting the ignition timing or idle screw. I would have thought the engine would cut out as soon as the hall sender was disconnected!
Make sure you plug the blue temp back in once you've done before turning the engine off.

this is the procedure i thought was right ^^^ thanks for that. anyone else?

I know it often tells you the most odd ways to do things but to completely omit a pretty major part of the proceduce just seems wrong.
Whats all this hall sender jazz about then

well the car wont run without the hall sender plugged in so i have no idea what its banging on about lol
