Title: If you didn't have a G40 what would you have instead?

Just wondering what everyone would drive if they didn't have a G40?

This might not go down too well but if i didn't have a my G40 mk1 project id be looking at getting one of these (maybe not white but in silver or black) :) :

but start off with a cheap one, strip it out and turn it into a track day car, like I have done with my g40.  I might even start off with a normal 80 coupe quattro and put the turbo engine into it and tune it a bit.

ive been spending a lot of time browsing for a peugeot 205 gti 1.9  so at the moment probably one of them actually.

With out  a doubt in the world i would have bought a Lupo GTI in black or arctic blue, and probably still be working out how the fook i was going to afford the turbo conversion.  ;D

Or when I sold my G40 last night *sob sob* in the days when I could only have one car .... I had a Mini Cooper S.  Good little car and still had the charger which I loved.  Until I found out everything was twice as much to change or modify!

p.s. I can't believe you all wouldn't have VW's!!! :p

Yeah, that looks very nice Max. 8) Tell ya Dad to get a period chrome door or peep mirror on it!
What engine/running gear does it have in it?

It's got the usual 1500 pre crossflow engine with a few bits...

I was thinking about this last night... A few to add to my list. T5 Volvo, Citroen DS  ::), County Transit, Syncro Golf or Jetta, a Notch or Squareback, Scirocco, Phaeton TDI, Ford F250 pickup, Subaru Brat, A2 1.4 TDI, Audi 2.6 V6 Avant. Just a few that came to mind.

I thought about this question a while ago and struggled.I'd like to
stay with the VAG Group but my mate has an Astra VXR and i
do like it....but it comes with a hefty price tag.So just to be

Thought about an earlier one of these as the kerb weight is 860kg so junk the crappy
Rover K-Series engine and stick me G40 engine in making it lighter still.
Apparently, theres a firm in Leeds who put bike engines in them.

Yep I'd love and Elise too. Either that or would be an R5 turbo or an RS1600 or and S1 RST. Possibly a MK1 XR2. There are loads of cars I'd have but they would be near the top of the list.

I'd have to go along with Sam as I also have a secret Ford appreciation shame...

S1 RS turbo was very nearly the project that the G40 has now become so if I hadn't bought the G, I'd have had one of those.

I'd replace my current daily (too embarrassing to name) with an Audi S2 at the drop of a hat.

to be fair i love old fords...the only mag i ever pick up in whsmith is fast ford or similar cos they have the best reviews and 'how to's' imo...

Realistically if i didnt have the on-going "wallet abusing" addiction to building my G then i would have would have to move to the dark side of the world with a Nissan Skyline R32 or R33 GTR Vspec.. although i would need a second job to pay for the insurance lol.


I would still have to have a VAG as my daily though!!

Got to own an pulsar at some point, and an old 6 series. Always gauping at the lotus carlton down the road everytime I go past it. Mmmmmm.

IF I could have any fast car,  it’d be a Caterham 7 CSR (260 Superlight in Caterham Orange) .  At last:  a Caterham I can fit my 6’4”  frame into!!!
