Post by: Alexiskayak_7 on October 25, 2015, 01:05:45 pm
Hello guys,

I am in the process of getting out my engine and box, to strenght my engine bay.
Can you share please any ideas or pictures on how to strenght it?

I've stitch welded the join between the chassis legs and inner wings. I've also welded around the front gearbox mount area. The most important bit though is the lower bulkhead to chassis rail joints, a notoriously weak spot that is prone to cracks and splits particularly on mk2f models. I've formed diagonal gussets here from 2mm thick sheet and welded them in.
Sorry, I'm no good with pics, but I hope this helps.

Breadman,

Can you share one picture of what you've done. Post it even if its low quality.

Do you guys weld anything under the gusset at all?

I know when the sealant is stripped back there can be quite a big gap under there, unsure if welding it is the right thing to do or not.
