front pads.. different size friction material.. big or small pad next to the piston? thanks

the slimmer goes on the outside, the wider goes on the piston side.

I've always gone the other way....

My thinking was the piston itself is a smaller surface area pushing on the smaller pad and the outside has the two large caliper ends that push on the outside of the larger pad.

Correct or not but I've run like this for years and never had wear issues.

When I first got my mk3 polo the previous owner had both large ones on the drivers side and both small ones on the passenger side...nuts.. but it still stopped fine and passed mot etc etc.
