new they last from 60 - 100k miles then they need a rebuild every 35-40k on a std pulley and 20k ish on a small pulley, depends how you drive them though  - harder = harsher on the charger

£350ish for a std rebuild
£500 ish if the charger is gas flowed

What do you mean they last 60-100k miles? Is there a possibility that a g lader can't be rebuilded (withaout be blown)

no he means , between 60-100k they may be starting to break down, as in the seals may be leaking/weeping and the bearings may be starting to collapse.  my g40's charger had done 100k and was rebuilt and was in good condition.  but i still got it rebuilt because there is no way it will have been working on top form.

Not sure who does rebuilds these days, I've always done my own, and now that PSD has gone I wouldn't know who to recommend after me!!

Jabbasport? Do you know PSD owner? If you go your car he will probably fix your car in a personal place (ex: his house) or at his new garage...

Have a word with Darren @ G-Werks.

Steve is still knocking about but not really sure he's taking work on anymore.  He has a job and stuff to contend with now!  He's on here fairly regularly so I'm sure he'll say something if he has the time to do anything.

slightly off topic but when i spoke to Jabba they said to be wary of a charger with Jabba sport sickers.

people were peeling them off and putting them on different chargers. As a result they now stamp on service remarks

Pitstop have closed down?   Where have a i been? i was looking at getting that done this year too!

I'm only looking at a standard rebuild, so its possible to do it myself, where do i get the parts from, and how easy is it to do?

It's a very simple task if you ask me. I've rebuilt a few here in Portugal and you just need to have the right tools for the job.
You can get the parts from a few online shops...

Well, it's all I know. As long as one don't have two left hands, I's straight forward job!

Jabba's only 10mins from me. I've heard some dodgy reports but it'd be easier to use them.

ive just started rebuilding my spare charger, ive never done one before, but to be honest its not that bad (so far) the guide in the 2 issues of golf + is worth getting hold of, for sure.  so far ive got the thing in bits and just have the bearings to remove.  the hardest part is getting the oil seal out without damaging anything.  So long as you are very gentle you should be able to prise them out with out damage.  the only special tools ive needed so far are circlip pliers and an oil seal puller.
ive also ported the outlet myself using pics i found online as a guide

i havnt gone mad with porting and i have tapered the ports so in the middle they are nearly full size, how much difference it will make is yet to be seen, but ive seen far shonkier porting on pics of some chargers that have been pro rebuilt.
