Title: Polo G40 Bulgaria
Post by: wierdo on December 27, 2008, 07:24:27 pm
Hi all.

I am happy to find that there are more forums like this G40 related.
This is my past project:
From Golf Mk2 chassis and G40 engine I've made up this:

Engine work:
Full rebuild of the engine and charger, 10 row oil cooler with thermostat, 68 pulley, K&N 57i kit, RS3 chip (bartek motorsports), all hoses new, front mount intercooler greddy, biggest water radiator, oil cach can, walbro fuel pump, 5 bar FPR, W5DP0 spark plugs, lighter flywheel, NZ-gear box, new clutch, gauges (oil temp, oil pressure, voltmeter, boostmeter), MOTUL 300V Competition 15W50

Even if I have tryed to lighten the Mk2 chassis it is still pretty heavy so I bought an ordinary Polo Mk3 coupe with in mind to swap the engine in there. For this I already have: full kit powerflex front bushes purple series, G60 green injectors, 60/40 suspension, rear strut brace, front strut brace, 15" wheels, sparco replica race seats, 280mm brakes with brembo disks, rear brakes from Golf Mk2 16v. New paint to the car, xenon, shiny rims, all lubricants motul ... bla bla bla that is not so important I think.
The work for the new project is not started yet but as soon as it begins will post more pictures.

.

So quite a lot time no writing in this topic.
But here is the update.
If I could summarize all that has been done is:
The Golf Mk2 coupe was sold to a drag racing team.
I have bought CL shell for my rebuilded 65 pulley PY engine.
Then new paint for the body - Arden Blue from Opel Corsa OPC. It is quite an expensive color but finally I am happy with the result.
I prefer the pictures talk for themselfs.

Old engine out

Yes, unfortunately there was a lot of rust - on the doors, on the rear, on the fuel tank cap, the fuel tank itself, front grill and a lot lot more

Sorry for the big pictures, they make the topic look crappy, but later i will fix that.

Some pictures from the trip to our recent VW show. But for the bad, the gear box broke down. It was from 1.0 carburator engine.
It is the most short from all that are out there for this polos (Top speed ~170 km/h). Now it is with 8p gear box that has longer gears but shorter diff from ATV.
And it's nice again (Top speed ~200 km/h)

Its good to see the rust being repaired properly, unfortunalty there are to many aging cars that just get the filler and paint treatment these days, I remember doing it all on my Fiat Strada Arbarth 130TC many years ago, hard work and lots a panel fabricating, but worth it in the long run(except the next owner stuck it on its roof in a ditch a few months later).

Well done dude :)

Some fresh photos.

Recent mods are, change the intercooler with smaller one (from 550x180 to 550x140), because of if standing in front of the water rad. Whit this I have added Redline Water Wetter additive to the antifreeze and now the water temperatures are at max 95C

Next week my G40 was invited to one of the biggest VW shows here.
It is the first G40 exposed in that kind of show so this makes me a little nervŠ¾us about how we will perform.
You can check out the previous year video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_hion6ufV8

I will keep you updated with pictures and videos from the show. :)

Nervous? Why mate? I think that your polo looks great!
Just bolt a set of fancy wheels and will look even greater!
Where is the show is going to be placed? In Sofia?
Title: Re: Polo G40 Bulgaria
Post by: wierdo on March 12, 2011, 11:00:52 pm
Sofia, yes. In the Inter Expo Center halls. It is the biggest national VW fest.

Of course I have started to prepare at the very last minute. Some other VW owners prepare for 2 months or even a year for this event. I have to deliver the car on 18th and there are ton of little things that need to be done. There will be waiting for us a polishing team that will take care of the final good look of the car.

The wheels are santimental, because they are modified Avus, without the curbs that are on the original model. So when I put the 5mm wheel spacers on all four wheels, I think there will be a small positive difference.

I try to not put any fancy staff, because the idea of the car is to be a street, practical G40 with looks. (Some definition  ;D )
I keep it plain and simple with the pure G beauty.

Thanks.

Actually a lot of people tell me to take off this mufler, but all the pipes from the manifold to the end are with 63 mm diameter.
So I need to have a mufler that has a proper in radius. If I install smaller mufler it will block some of the exhaust gases and all the money I have spent on the entire system goes to hell.
I know that 63mm is a little too much for the power of this car. :)
The sound is pretty awesome too.

Post by: G_CoNeCtioN on March 13, 2011, 05:07:47 pm
yes but you need a bit of strugle to increase power like 63 to 60mm mufler..but the best line its all 55mm..
