Title: Rad fan switch
Post by: CJ Dubs on March 19, 2014, 06:23:29 pm
Guys,

Anyone know what the red/black wire on the rad fan switch goes to?  I'm putting a new loom in mine but this wire has been cut and I cannot see the other end! >:(

There are three wires on the rad fan switch - red/black, red/white & red/brown.

Pics below:

It attaches into the other fan switch!

It's the fat black plug that also has a brown wire and red/white wire coming out!

Oh I see...you mean the plug that connects to the fan motor?? ???

At present I have three wires (as above) coming out of the rad switch - the red/black is cut and goes nowhere, the red/white goes to the rad fan motor and the red/brown goes back into the loom somewhere.

So you're saying that the rad fan motor should also have three wires (because it currently only has two) - the red/white which goes back to the rad switch, a red/brown (I think) which goes back into the loom and this red/black which also goes back to the rad switch?

I haven't got the loom with me to check but I'm guessing that if I look at the fan motor plug then this should have space for 3 wires then!? ???

Cheers,
Chris.

Hi,

Yeah, my (red/black) loops into the fan motor plug. So that it has 3 wires

Are you replacing the whole loom or just sections with new wires?

Whole loom!

Well...long story short I'm actually putting a G40 in a MK1 so I'm not so much replacing like-for-like but replacing altogether i.e. I took the MK1 loom out a few years ago and only now just getting round to checking the G40 loom (which was working when I drove the crash damaged G40 home a few years ago now) and putting that (complete) in the MK1 shell.

Cheers,
Chris.

I priced up a whole new loom and i reckon its going to cost about 150.

Have you found a decent crimp terminal supplier?

So far I haven't needed to change or add anything to the loom - this broken wire has been my only issue so I haven't needed to buy any supplies.  I literally unclipped it from the G40 donor vehicle and clipped it in place in my MK1.

Ah, fair does, i am replacing the whole lot to hopefully improve signal transfer. plus the looms are 20 years old and the copper is becoming brittle.
