Title: 13" alloys over 256 brakes
Post by: Jezza-7 on August 05, 2013, 07:45:32 pm
What size spacers would you need with 13" alloys?

All depends on the wheel. Quite a few split rims happily fit over 256mm brakes without silly offsets.

the vast majority of 13" wheels wont fit, not even close.

some will, usually ones aimed at motorsport.   Some compomotive wheels are pretty good for this.

Which ones?

I think a compomoive CXR is known for having a lot of brake clearance, would like to get a hold of one to try.

I tried MB mini alloys once and I think they would have fit with a 20mm spacer or a better offset.  Split rim type job.

Off the top of my head, Tramont's fit over 256mm.

As do some Compo's

Just i wouldnt mind getting some 13's to run slicks as 14's are not great size.

May have a look into comp's then.

Jezza- Try mine this weekend if you want, I've got ET20 and ET0, the latter won't fit with your arches.

Phil- What offset on the tramont? Mathers always used t run spacers, even with 239mm single pot caliper  ???

What about BRAID WINRACE A ? I read somewhere that they fit on 262 mm brake caliper (but in Honda) without spacers.

ps. weight of the alloys .... 4,1 kg / pc

Well I sold my tramonts to a kiddy with a 6n 16v, stock 256mm brakes. He wanted to come try them, I told him they probably wouldn't fit. When he turned up, they did. Can't remember offset or width, but I had them to go on an early polo.

The delta mics I'm selling have the bolts backwards and the allen head recessed for maximum clearance, would be surprised if they didn't clear a set also.

Did I hear somewhere that the berg cup guys in Germany were using large go-kark brakes to get the 13's to fit over?

Wouldn't surprise me. Been speaking to a local Motorsport place and they were saying they were running 300mm brakes (I think, certainly bigger than 280s) under 13inch comps, and I was just checking for clearance on my 256 brakes!!!

It does take custom barrels on the comps but they are no more expensive than standard ones and come with slip rings incase you are running over 500bhp

Assuming you were going to use a motorsport wheel (eg compomoive CXR) then are there calipers available which would fit under them? Ive heard hi-spec do/did some but I want avoid them. Wilwood seem to be good and cheap but the calipers are quite big. Does someone like AP or Brembo do a caliper?

Midilite fits under with a stock offset Brembo 256mm Golf 16v Disc, 13" CXR ET0 (or less)

Need big arches to run them though  ;)

you'd make a good salesman yoof lol. I thought I read somewhere you were running like a 2mm spacer aswell as ET0 wheels?

Do you run that size on the track aswell? and what are you running at the rear?

I do that's true, one of my wheels catches at ET0 because of balance weights. So run a 2mm spacer for clearance.

If I was getting a custom set made I'd go ET-5 so I've got room to spare. My other set of CXR are positive offsets, so I run a 20mm spacer all round, along with 10mm stub axle spacers at the back.

Managed to sell you plenty of shit over the years, and you work in F1. Must be doing something right  ;D
