I've read the post from James in the FAQ but this seems so much more aggressive than most of the stuff I've read.

Haynes seems to think 500 miles below 70% throttle variating the revs.

What have people done? Yoof Andy Robin etc etc?

Also when did you do your first oil change, some I've hear 100 miles some 500 .

Ive always run a fresh engine in for 600 miles and then an oil and filter change
100 miles is ridiculous
wouldn't go above 60 percent throttle and like you say variate the revs as much as possible, try not to hold it at a constant load for long periods of times, i.e going along the motorway at 50 for miles and miles
This is what Yamaha and Aprilia said to do when i had my bikes, pretty sure if that's good for a highly strung bike engine, itl be good enough for a Polo :P

I didnt use that guide at all in the end, was a bit crazy.

I think what i did was run the engine with running in oil, did 100 miles with that and Put fresh oil in then dropped that after 500 miles.

As taylor says avoid motorway driving! I used A roads everywhere and never took it past 3k RPM, more like 2500 rpm.

If you can get a magnetic sump plug to catch all the metal. Awesome sell them for £10 or so.

+1 that! it will probably pick up a fair amount of metal filings floating around during running in period

I varied the revs, avoided labouring the engine and tried not to rag the tits off it - but don't be scared of using a bit of boost or revving it a bit if needs be.

Because my engine wasn't built in the cleanest of environments I dropped the oil at 100, 250, 500 and 1000 miles. The first two changes it came out like metallic paint and I changed the oil filter at 500 and 1000 miles.

I did drive on the motorway a lot at night (was a student with time on my hands!), as you could do 50-80mph in 4th and 5th to vary the revs a lot. I couldn't go on boost really because it pinked its arse off as PSD had given me an unsuitable chip to run it on.
