Title: New VAG only race series for 09
Post by: G40motorsport on November 20, 2008, 05:01:01 PM
Thought some of you may be interested as there seems to be a fair few Polo's out there that could well be eligible to race.
Costs are planned to be kept as low as possible for maximum track time.

The VAG Trophy will be open to two wheel drive VW Audi Seat and Skoda models built before 2002.
Cars will be split into near standard and modified classes.
Organizers hope to keep the cars on a level playing field by categorizing them using power to weight ratios.
An expected maximum out put is to be 250bhp.

If you fancy any more info email vagtrophyinfo@aol.com

Might give my Polo a run in it.

V.A.G. Trophy Press Release.

New V.A.G. Race Series.

The team behind the Mk2 Golf Race Championship are planning to launch a new race series in 2009 for Volkswagen Audi Group (V.A.G.) cars named the 'V.A.G. Trophy'. This will be run through the 750 Motor Club.

Overview.

Key features :

·   Types of vehicle. The series is intended to provide a format for ANY 2 wheel drive model from the V.A.G. portfolio manufactured before 2002. This includes Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Skoda.
·   Diesels. We will actively encourage the participation of DIESEL engined models. The organiser's believe this is a 'first' at club level.
·   Value for money. It is recognised that budgets are being cut in the current economic climate. We believe the format will facilitate some very quick lap times at comparatively low cost.
·   Classes. There are 2 classes for both petrol and diesel models, allowing both near standard and modified vehicles to compete. The vehicles will be categorised on a Power to Weight basis.

Likely Vehicles.

The organisers expect to attract vehicles of the following types :

1, DIESEL V.A.G. models.
2, Ex. Vento Challenge cars.
3, Ex. Polo G40 Cup cars.
4, Ex. 'Slick 50' Golf Mk1 & 2 variants.
5, Ex. VW Cup cars.
6, Ex. Trackday V.A.G. models.
7, Seat Cupras.
8, Modified V.A.G. road cars which are adapted for race use.

Series ethos.

The series will build on the basic ethos of the Golf Championship and the organisers will actively promote :

·   Highly competitive racing. .
·   Strict driving standards (non-contact !).
·   Excellent value for money.
·   Friendly and helpful environment in which to race.

Series structure

The series will commence in the summer of 2009 and be run over 6 rounds at 5 venues (provisionally).

Further information and draft regulations will be available from our email address : Vagtrophyinfo@aol.com.

Had a mail from the VAG Trophy guys today

We are pleased to announce some exciting changes to the V.A.G. Trophy, which are detailed below :
Registration Fee. The £200 registration fee has been removed for 2009 - you simply need to be a member of the 750 MC and you can register to race. The caveat is that we ask every registered competitor to enter at least one race. We want to encourage racers from other series to try the V.A.G. Trophy, so felt the registration fee may act as a 'barrier.
Series Classes.
1, We have amalgamated the petrol and diesel classes for 2009.
2, We have introduced a new class for vehicles with higher level of modifications i.e. non standard supercharger / turbochargers / engine changes etc.
3, We have introduced a class for Mk2 Golf Championship' specification cars.
Invitation class.  We have introduced an 'invitation class' where cars with modifications over and above our regulations can come and run in our series. This is particularly aimed at vehicles which have been built for other race series / championships, so that competitors can come along and race with us., If they like what they see, then look at how their vehicles may be adapted for the 2010 V.A ..G. Trophy.
Log book. We've introduced a 'log book' system, which details the specification of every vehicle which will enter the series This will assist with identifying modifications and the scrutineering process.
Tyres. Tyres meeting RAC MSA list 1A or 1B will be eligible.
The approved series regulations will be sent out to you next week, along with a registration form. However, we hope that we've now catered for most of your requirements in a fair and balanced way.

Our aspiration was always to conceive a race series which would bring a fantastic mix of V.A.G. vehicles with many differing modifications together under one umberella - we believe we've now achieved this and look forward to an awesome spectacle come July !.

I love the idea of an invitation class. Spent a great length of time speaking to the guys at Autosport about 'over-modified' cars.

I plan to finish my G40 this summer, but due to the Mongol Rally I haven't got the time/money.

Now they have dropped the registration fee, and the 750mc membership is only £50
I now plan to give my car a run in it, the cars good to go already from a specification point of view.

Luckily it's now eligible for pre 93 with the Classic Touring car club, the Toyo Tires series and the BARC South East regions Tin Top series. So plenty of choice of where to run it this year competitively without having to spend too much.
