Title: Unable to change gear!
Post by: JregGT on November 19, 2012, 09:31:27 PM
Evening folks, everyso often, the gear change on my polo would become 'tight/stiff' but after a couple more changes, would generally go back to its normal slightly sloppy self!!! But on the last occasion, this has not been so! I have had the car up in the air and checked the linkage and it was fine, but I did release the linkage off the selector rod, and the selector rod is almost solid in the box.
So what are the failure options? 1. Clutch 2. something failed in the box itself?

Gut feeling i dont think it is the clutch as doesn't feel any different when dipping clutch, cable is in good condtion and move freely pulling the fork correctly.

Just wondered if anybody had, had this before, and am I right in thinking an 8p box is the closest replacement?

Cheers all

Rich

check the gearbox fluid level and viscosity.

it happened to a friend of mine and after a flush and fresh oil was ok.

Did mean to mention, oil level is fine, and fresh 80/90 was put in it 2 years ago this christmas coming? How often should gearbox oil be changed? I though 2 yeras was relatively short period for gearbox oil.
