Title: Loud whine on cold start up.
Post by: james22sniper on October 09, 2012, 10:18:18 AM
Hi all... without having had a close look and listen, my son says his G40 whines quite loudly on cold start up. Sounds like it could be a slipping belt somewhere. He says its not the charger and its ok once warm. Any thoughts before we get under the bonnet would be appreciated!
Thanks
William & Dad!

sounds like the water pump noise that mk2s and mk3s tend to make, nothing to worry about.

Yeah. Had that on loads of older VWs. No worries usually.

Turned out to be the supercharger belt - teeth all stripped off!

ah OK, must have been a bit noisier than the usual water pump whine then!  Glad it's sorted.
