the engine in the car is powerful enough for what i use it for, no point in making a 200+ bhp motor if im not going to use it.
Im downscaling my stock of polo stuff as i look to the future - no other reasons.

Kiz mate, What else is needed for the rebuild of this? Reckon I've melted a piston so i'm weighing up my options.

depends. if your turboing then just a rebore to 77mm which isnt to expensive. if its Glader the you need to look at the engine mounting bosses (not sure if its essential or not) i was turboing so wasnt concerned.

and you need a head to bolt to it- which must be drilled out for the larger head bolts. again a simple thing to do, the head i have got for this isnt for sale hence why its needed.

engine is a meccano set - nothing is built- its all in boxes and packets so you will need to fit all the bearings and do all of the engine building prep.

What compression ratio will the pistons make, is it 9:1?

I'm potentially looking at doing a 1W 1473 lump, I have the chance of a 1W lump. Will my 77mm Wossner forged pistons from my 1341 PY work in this bottom end if open it up to 77mm? Or are the low compression forged pistons for this job 1W specific? I'm led to believe my pistons are too tall. advice will be gratefully accepted. Thanks  :)

The pistons are 1w Specific the py wossners you have will not work. I Think the stroke changes the compression ratio/ causes valve or head contact cant remeber which though!

my 1W pistons have a lower deck height than normal 77mm forged pistons, they are over a cm shorter so you will NOT be able to use your piston to create 1473cc.

they are specific and can quite happily say - Rare as you cant just buy 4 pistons do to minimum batch numbers requested by piston manufacturers meaning you have to buy 20

Great advice, someone offered me a 1W lump in response to my 'Bottom end Wanted' post and temporarily took me away from my original plan which was to open a 1272 lump up and use my existing 77mm pistons but this time accompanied by forged rods.. This is what I am going to do, at least I can crank the revs up with good rods and parts will be more readily available. Thanks for helping me to make a decision  :)
