Right i have been after one of them PSD exhaust manifolds, thats got the Y piece in, for years now and was wondering if i could get mine cut in the same place as the PSD ones then get a Y piece made up to connect the system up.
Would it be a problem?
Anyone think it's worth a go?
Not seen a PSD one, but usually the headers (tubes out of the flange face) are tuned to a specific length and made as equal as possible - hence the crazy-crazy F1 manifolds which look like a brass instrument gone wrong. I dont see if issue with copying the PSD, as long as you copy exactly where the 'Y' piece is, to make it the same as they developed. Make sure the material of the new 'Y' piece is the same as the donor manifold or the differential expansion of the two metals will stress the weld and it'll crack. I think you can buy the 'Y' pieces online from places that do exhaust componants - most are in the states though. Failing that, raid a scrappy and get intimate with a flapper disc & die grinder.
What are the benifits of a PSD manifold over any of the other four brancher's on the market?
Benefit for me is taking the engine out with manifold on. All other manifolds, except the standard one, you have to take charger off then manifold to get engine out, and the driveshafts usually get in the way. With the Y-piece there you can just take that out then the engine will come straight out.
A lot easier for gearbox changes and clutch change etc. And with a ppp stage 3 frame im not taking that off to get the box off.
Are you meaning the Y piece under the engine? So it would be like PPPs manifold?
Having my PPP manifold fitted made changing my sump gasket a really simple job. I think any other would have made it a pain to remove.
