It would seem, I have found the limit of PY rods...
Gutted a piece of block also ended up splitting the rad:

Never rains and all that.
Will strip engine out of the car this week and take the head off, I'm guessing 1 set of dead forged pistons, a written off BV head, and probably scrap crank.
So, challenge- fit steel rods to a built 1341cc motor and freshen up bolts/gaskets too, all before BVF (with 4 days away with the mrs inbetween) time to stock up on midnight oil ;D
bloody hell, you're still planning on having it at BVF! I thought you'd have written that off now. Best of luck to you :D
DOH!
Thats so unlucky after all this time. where you giving it some when she went?

Not sure if that help but they could be strong. Good luck mate!
I think yoof's car is getting it's own back for being crashed at oulton park last year!
dam.. I thought this would have written you off for the trackday, let alone BVF!!

Set of these are on their way... 8)
Gutted for you mate. Just for the record, how much is too much for the PY rod in the end?
Well it depends on peak cylinder pressure (effectively torque) and peak torque speed (rpm kills rods). I guess a large turbo setup is worse for this as the torque peaks at a much higher rpm than a standard engine.
Regarding figures, last time I had it rolling roaded it made ~215bhp and 200lbft, although Andy's car only made 175bhp on the same rolling road (his made 207bhp at Aldon). That's almost 26bar BMEP which is smokey even by modern day OEM boosting standards (Ford's new 1.0litre ECOboost is ~24bar BMEP).
Those rods have done ~20k at 200bhp+ and probably 2k with the large turbo (just on track and strip) so more like 15k road miles, total 35k ish. Hard to life things properly, especially not knowing history, but the old girl hasn't done badly.
gutted for you mate but as you say she hasn't done bad from that many miles at that power. i'll maybe put rods in mine now. how much did you pay for them and from where? pm me if you like.
well you're not the only one with a bit of bad luck..... looks like i need a turbo. my second hand 200sx turbo didnt like being clocked and messed with plus i got it for cheap...
just dont know whether to buy the same one or a gt2554r now. maybe run a nice 220bhp.
Aaah mate! Wounder!
Gutted for you mate.. as for rain, your spot on with that!
Bugger that it took the rad with it!
Im glad I opted for the PEC rods now.. however every product has a life cycle. 35K of hard use is pretty cost effective at circa £100 a rod, surely!?
:D
Looks like your a glutton for punishment! Good luck with the recovery!
also i could get your rad fixed id say, if you want? i imagine you know someone too though. let me know if you want it sorted.

Might take you up on that mate, although I think I know a man down here, will let you know if I'm struggling, cheers!
ater it was looking really well at the polo show on sunday
gutted for you!!
oops!
for once it wasnt mine throwing a hissy fit! apart from sucking abit of moisture in on the A605, it was running spot on ;)
