Title: Universal joints
Post by: gavin.starr on June 14, 2012, 04:14:49 PM
My car decided to start making a knocking noise last night onn the way home.

It only does it when im not accelerating, whel i lett off the pedal and roll up to a junction or lights you can hear ar clunk clunk clunk, At first i thought i may have forgotten to tighten the bolts on the wheel but i have checked them and there tight. I have also checked the bolts in the back of both calipers and there tight also

So the only other thing i think it can be is the drive shaft universal joints. How do I check these for wear and tear etc...?

CV joints you mean?  Could be them.  Also check that the driveshaft bolts onto the gearbox are tight.  They are 8mm xzn spline.

Yea the cv joints. Im pretty sure the bolts are tight but ill double check when i get home.  Is there a way to check the cv joints them selves for any play?
