Hi guys,
First of all I hope this allowed/in the right section. Please move or delete it if not...
I passed my test over a year ago and due to insurance prices I've not been able to get on the road. I've now decided I want to at least get the car ready and sorted on my drive. So I'm looking for a cheap G40 or similar. I'm ok with something that needs a bit of (light) work as I've got the space and plenty of people who drive polos to give me a hand. Id rather a car that is mechanicly sound, but maybe needs a bit of work looks wise. I'm located in the Derby area. If anyone has.knows of anything or can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it!
Cheers
Hi there, I hope you will soon be a G40 owner!
Just a small word of advice though, there's no such thing as a cheap G40! Cheap to buy will often mean there's a cost involved in getting it up to scratch, plus keeping on top of maintenance can also be expensive.
Also, if you haven't yet had a car on the road since passing your test insurance will probably still be prohibitive, I think G40's were the old group 15.
Good luck.
Haha yeah I'm quite aware they don't come cheap. When I said cheap I was thinking more towards the £1000 mark rather than the £2000+ which I've seen a fair few at.
Insurance wise I'm sure it'll be stupidly high but I'm 21 soon so it should drop a bit. Depending on just how much more, Id rather pay a few hundred more to be going round in one of these rather an a Corsa if possible!
Thanks for the nice words though, its always a bit daunting posting in such a tight knit community!
welcome....
yeah... my advice would be to weigh up the options of cheap car+ cash to fix versus sorted car. £1000 + cambelt+suspension+charger service + brakes could quite easily be £2000! if yu get my drift
Yeah definitely. I was originally put off after seeing how much money some of my friends have poured into similar cars, but then coming onto sites like these and seeing the results...
Like I said, I'm a complete beginner with all these stuff so any advice or direction to certain cars top for sale is appreciated.
I'd recommend getting a 1.3 or a Gt first mate. I've had the lot since I passed my test (2007) and I think the G needs the most care and attention out of all of em. Get used to driving polos first then consider getting a G

the new insurance group for a G40 is 40 something now
as these have said already a cheap g40 adds up to alot ! i got mine for £1800 and ive had to do plenty of work ! brakes ,cambelt water pump, clutch and it now needs a charger rebuild new top suspension mounts and new ball joints(wishbones)and the last owner had not changed the rotor arm so that fell to bits and smashed my dizzy to pieces ,so really i wish i had saved for a much better one!but i still love it :) ,so be ready to spend good money ! or like etches69 said get a gt i had one after having a few polos and i was really fun to drive and didnt have to keep spending money on it ! but good luck with what ever you decide to get :)
