Title: G40 noise at 80+MPH
Post by: Beckett on April 12, 2012, 08:11:39 PM
Hi all, was driving the g the other day above 80, and noticed a wierd loud noise, was kind of a droning sound. at first i thought it was tyre noise on the road as i recently have new wheels an tyres to before. but i put g into neutral and as the revs dropped it didnt make it was just road noise... on the way home today i tried going about 4-5 rpm in most gears and it didnt seem to make the noise. but the noise at 80 wasnt as loud it seemed, as the car was not long warm, and no boosting previously. it does the noise at 80+ without foot flat down etc, so wondering if anyone has had this noise before and shed some light for me? :)

i have a custom stainless exhaust from cat back, and standard belts and pulleys etc. and never noticed this noise before.

i am hoping its just exhaust when its hotter from boosting or something, exhaust is like nearly 2 years old made by longlife.

if you need any info just ask
Thanks Ben.

I think I used to have the same problem, unfortunately the G40 engine makes a racket with a custom exhaust on at motorway cruising speeds. I went to a standard one and haven't looked back. does it get quieter above 80ish?

above 80 the noise comes in, kinda at any speed, only been to about 90-100 i think.

and well over a year with this exhaust and just noticed this noise this week, never done it before... will have to go do some tests and maybe a vid if it picks it up lol.
