Title: which crank pulley for a g40 turbo
Post by: PeteG40 on March 26, 2012, 08:05:33 AM
Hi - am looking at getting a new one from vag for my turbo.

There are two part numbers - early and late.

The earlier one is slightly smaller.  Presume this is like ones on mk2s (and therefore might have timing markings corresponding to a g40 pointer - as they are based on a mk2 engine) and will use a smaller belt.

the later is bigger and is as fitted to a gt,uses a longer belt

I'm tempted by the smaller (and therefore lighter one) but im not sure why they changed it???? anyone know?

I thought the early and late was square tooth and round,
Double check there both round too..

oops ..... :$

Was there never a deviation between alternators running different power outputs?

possibly different sizes for the different Amps ... could be rattling of horse crap tho ..:D

Just make sure you match the alternator pulley diameter to the crank pulley.
