I'm thinking of reshelling my G40 into a comet blue mk2 coupe, but am in 2 minds on whether to do it or not. My mk3 is an original G40 shell, on an L plate and is pretty rare now from what I gather. It's solid apart from the bottoms of the doors, but could do with a respray due to lacquer peel on the rear quarter, and a couple of places where the paint has been polished through.
Any opinions on whether I should do it or not? I don't particularly want to see another original shell off the road, but I really prefer the mk2 :D
If your G40 has no sunroof, then do it and i'll buy your shell and race prep it. ;D
Im on the lookout for a good mk3 non sunroof shell to re-home my G40 conversion.
;D Would have been a plan, but I've got a sunroof! :(
:( Would have been too ideal! Haha.
I know what you mean about mk2's though!
why not sell your g40 and then buy a mk2 shell and a g40 engine with the money and also have a night out with the left overs?
I had my G40 up for sale for 4 months and didn't really get any interest in it. Pretty glad now though, since I now want to use it.
Insurance might be the limiting factor here. I can insure a mk3 G40 with Bell, but it seems nobody will touch me with an engine conversion until I'm 25.
You tried adrian flux? They have always catered for my cars. Engine conversions don't seem to phase their underwriters.
Sell it and buy a conversion or write off :)
try Brentacre too, didnt make any difference to them whether is a conversion or genuine g40.
Brentacre have given my renewal as £1700 TPFT with a £500 excess :o. I can insure my daily A4 and the G40 fully comp for that with Bell. Bell won't quote online for a Mk2 with engine swap, but I'm going to give them a call and see if they will cover once I give them more details.
HiC are worth a punt too. Always gave me good deals. I paid about £400 on my Golf2G40 tpf+t. This was a few years ago now so probably irrelevant tbh.
