Title: No Gears
Post by: james22sniper on March 12, 2012, 10:01:24 AM
Morning all...
My son reports having no first second or third gear having limped home in top last night. Gear stick is wobbly. Any thoughts before we have even had a chance to look under the bonnet later?
Thanks!

check out the gear linkage first.  It may be loose or broken, it's underneath the car, just have a look at it and see if it looks OK.

Had the car in the air last night... the gear shift linkages had seperated! Because....... the rear lower engine mount between the gearbox and car body had snapped!!! The gearbox dropped and tilted enough for the linkages to just seperate. Whipped the mount off... cleaned it up... welded it back together... refitted it and reconnected the gear shift linkages and all go again!!!   :)

I have pics of the mount, off the car, that had snapped... or my son has on his phone. Will get them and attempt to attach them here.

I just meant pics of the actual snapped one, I was interested in how it has failed.

oh so it's not a standard mount.  Looks like a PPS one.  Obviously not the best welding again.

yeah looks like a PPS one but is slightly different to the way it mount on the chassis. But if you can remember this is what happened to my mount from PPS, except it didnt crack as bad.

I've yet to have one crack yet, Adam's had a PPP one snap on him, but has rewelded and its been fine since.
