Title: Length of pipe for vacuum
Post by: Jezza-7 on February 29, 2012, 09:41:14 PM
Looking more into this terrible hunting my car likes to do and i would like to know the length of the pipe that come off of the ecu to the brake vacuum line including the 2 rubber hoses. I changed these rubber pipes for silicone but cant remember if i cut them to the same and iirc i read somewhere that these need to be an exact size.

Cheer guys

I thought that didn't include the joining hoses though Kiz?

Edit: ETKA recons 460mm for the plastic hose and 40mm for each joining rubber hose. It's all going to vary by how much you overlap the hoses too.

Just as a side note Jezza, how far out is your idle screw? Both G40AD and I have experienced aggressive hunting when the idle screw on the TB is too far out, I presume a similar thing would happen with an air leak after the TB

You may also want to know the internal diameter of the hose the length is specified for. I assume this length that's referred to is not actually important, but the volume of the area inside the pipe?

Does anyone actually know that this makes any difference for certain? It's worth trying for the sake of a 50p hose but I'm just not convinced myself until I see some evidence/ maths/ other proof.

VW obviously thought so. You'd probably need to wire a map sensor up to an oscilloscope to actually prove anything though.
