So all my local factors are saying it's been discontinued, and the one place which said they could get hold of it want my left kidney for it. Even VW can't supply me. WTF?
Does anyone know a factors or someone which have a supply of them at a reasonable cost?
PY ones were dealer only anyway - they are different from other late mk2/mk3 gaskets as they have metal internals - the others gt, cl ones are just rubber. Most motor factors will therefore list 3f ones etc (and most incl gsf etc say to fit py).
Alternatively they are on ebay - oem ones - but are about £30 (which is how much they are at dealers for one).
Or as my dealer said 'they are sh1t, even new ones leak. Use the old one with blue gasket'
Elring gaskets are oem. They have vw audi embossed in them. The metal insert PY type.
Give Nick at RS engine supplies a buzz 01233661458. He's the only place i use for engine components now. Top bloke, actually rings you back and very reasonable pricing.

Gave Nick a call and discussed it with him, just as you said - top bloke. He can get one from Germany in a week or so's time but if the only differences are metal internals, then I'm tempted to spend 4 quid on an all rubber GT one and seal 'er up GOOD. He couldn't see any major differences in the pictures (but of course these are only graphical representations) so I'll do that & let you know what the fit is like. Won't be able to report on oil leakage for a while though as I'm mid-build....
gt will fit fine.
Nice one, thank Pete 8)
Mines not PY specific but its got a whole tube of silicone round it and it seems to be ok.
