Title: K reg 92 Polo G40 Perl Grey
Post by: Jezza-7 on January 13, 2012, 01:17:51 PM
Unfortunately a time has come where im looking to sell my g40. Not sure if im just going through a bad time in life but anyway......

Ok i am the 3rd owner of the car. It has done 117k i think and has always been serviced with oil changes, plugs filters etc and had just recently had an oil change after 4k miles from my new engine rebuild. The engine is the original engine but has done 500 miles less than the actual total. I have put a lot of god dam hard work into this car and i will be sad to see it go. I have got receipts for loads of parts and all the mot's and documents. Got 1 original key and on spare key. Over the last 5 months i have spent around £2200 on the car which will be listed.

I dont know the power of the car as i haven't had it on a rolling road but it was 150bhp last time, that was before i had the head ported, schrick cam, forged bottom end and the r1 charger. Could be around the 180 bhp.

So the spec of the car:

1341cc bottom end with wossner forged piston's running a standard CR
Ported and polished head carried out by the man in the shed
Stainless steel exhaust manifold and system, recently had new front silencer
standard vw head gasket
windage tray in the sump
Mocal oil cooler 13 row
Schrick cam
new timing pulley's top and bottom
PSD Toothed kit 65mm pulley
gt inlet manifold
51mm throttle body with slightly ported t-piece
G60 injectors
silicone hosing
New radiator 4k miles ago as well as thermostat, housing, both water sensors and new knock sensor
The distributor and the ignition coil were replaced last year around march/april
Alternator was new from bosch and was replaced may 2010
custom made intercooler, same as standard but all aluminium, boost went up 1-2 psi
R1 spec charger producing 12psi that was serviced by pete and only done 5k miles at max.
Custom made inlet to charger pipe work with K&N air filter regularly cleaned
Lightened flywheel
helix clutch
new release bearing about 1k miles ago
New recon box that has covered 1k miles
uprated driveshafts
Wheel bearings were replaced in feb 2010, fronts were vw, rear were GSF but i have got rear vw ones if they need doing on next mot. Discs, pads, rear shoes and drums were also done as well as a new fuel tank. Pumps were also replaced in april 2010 with genuine vw ones which are too expensive!
PPP Stage 3 frame and gear box mount
ATS Cups 14" with toyo tyres, will need replacing very soon. These were reconditioned about 2 years ago costing £45 a wheel and are still in good nic.
standard brembo disc's with red stuff pads
suspension is stock on rear i believe but the fronts are bilstein shocks with standard springs
recently had the top mounts replaced on front
all engine/gearbox mounts were replaced last year
foglights were put in last year as when 1st bought it didnt have any
Momo steering wheel
interior is pretty good, slight bolster wear and the little split on the rear seat
got 3 gauges where radio was, Boost pressure, Oil pressure and A/F mix all stack gauges costing over £300
Still got the spare wheel
Body work has a few minor dings and a very slight bit of surface rust on one of the doors. Got a little dent on the rear left hand side near the boot. Sunroof seal has never leaked and i do have a spare for that. The car had a little incident before i owned it where someone drove into the drivers door. They had it resprayed but it wasn't the best job.
Slight knocking noise from suspension but only thing it can be is the TCA's as the ones on the car currently are not G40 ones. I have got some G40 ones ready to go on too.

Will have loads of spares but will list them in the for sale section.

Ok there is a lot of history with the engine. 1st time round at about 113k miles i melted the piston. So got a new block and a BVH. Fitted it all and covered about 500 miles and the valve went through the piston. So i went back to the original engine and took it to TSR and said do what you need to make it run again. So they stripped the block, bored it to 77mm cleaned it all and painted it. They took the crank and balanced it and well as the rods. Fitted the forged pistons which cost £550. All the bearings and genuine from vw as well as the oil pump which was over £100. The head was sent to the man in the shed where the head was stripped, ported etc, cleaned and everything was replace as well as fitting new INA tappets and the schrick cam. They bolted the engine back together with the correct bolts from vw, as well as a new head gasket, and they used that gasket sealer on the sump as i had a windage tray fitted. New lower and top pulley from vw and timing belt were all fitted and timed up by TSR. Once the engine was back it had new magnecor leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, all new seal one the distributor and it the car it was run in with running in oil for a few miles then i used 10w40. After running the engine in it was taken to PPP for a custom remap where it all went well and is now pulling like a train. Rebuild was £1500

So the engine has only done something like 4000 miles and the gearbox was reconditioned with both syncro's replaced. They said the syncros were old style ones so they replaced them for new style ones. Havent a clue what he was on about though. Recon cost £500

0-60 time is about 6 seconds and gets just under 70mph in 2nd gear. Would benefit from a diff. Top speed i have had is just under 140 mph and that was for the mapping so its mapped to a high speed that you should go anywhere near.
I always fill up at 300 miles but i have got around 2 gallons left so it can do 350 miles to a tank. I get about 42mpg on the motorway which is pretty good considering the work it has had done.

Tax is till june/july and mot is due next month which will be done probably before it goes.

I would recommend a viewing or test drive as it is a really nice car.

There is probably a few bits i have missed but will double check when im at home next week as i got a book full of everything done.

Car is running on v-power as that is what i got it mapped on.

Price I would like to see it go for £4000 but will accept offers.

I dont really wanna break it as its an original but if there was enough i might consider breaking it.

Pics to follow

Can vouch for this as being a very well sorted and looked after G40, and a rapid one at that.

I hope things work out so you can keep this - you've been through a fair amount of shit to get it to this stage!

You can't sell after all that work and let someone else get the benefit. If it's tight finances, sell a kidney, but hold on to your G.

Shame to see this Jezza! After all you've been through its a big shame that you are wanting to sell up. I hope you do decide to keep it.

If you do end up breaking it then I will certainly have a few big bits from you.
