Title: ATV Cupcar box
Post by: matthew85 on December 22, 2011, 06:50:04 PM
So I picked this box up a few years back, finally got round to stripping it down, and found a Gemini diff to be fitted complete with VW motorsport logo's, which is as to be expected. ( not sure to which one it is, maybe someone could help?)

Now with regards, to the FD: It's not a standard ATV item. Firstly its 3.875 ratio, (62/16) from memory need to and looking at the quality of it, looks better than OEM. Ill post up photos of the xmas period showing the markings which are stamped on both the crown wheel and pinion/ main shaft)

I would appreciate it, if anyone of the 'people in the know' could identify who made it, and if all cup cars use these? Or if there are more?

By the way, I am on the hunt of a short FD, something in the region of 4.3 (as fitted to the DCD box) or longer. IF anyone could help, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Cup Cars had to use totally standard, sealed, gearboxes in the G40 Cup.  They just had the option of fitting an LSD, otherwise it all had to be totally road-going-g40 standard parts.

However, the G40 Cup ended in 1994 or 1995, the car the box was on probably took part in any number of other race series since then which may have allowed all sorts of modifications.

If you post a pic of the diff I'll be able to tell if it's a phase one Gemini or phase two.  It's probably going to be a weaker phase one though, I have 90% of one of these on a shelf in my garage after part of the casing of it decided to snap once.

Be interested in seeing pics of the final drive too.
