Title: Misfiring on full throttle - solved
Post by: grungeisdead on September 15, 2011, 11:21:39 AM
Hello again all,

Been trying to resolve a problem where the car misfires as soon as you push the pedal down far enough to close the BRV fully. Fine on partial throttle/boost

New parts fitted in the last week or so

Coil
Rotor Arm
Dizzy Cap
Spark Leads
In-Line Fuel Pump
Throttle Body Lower Gasket
Serviced Charger
Lambda Sensor

Checked for Boost Leaks - By removing BRV linkage and holding BRV shut for 2 seconds - none

I have the following bits still to fit
- New spark plugs - NGK BP7EVX (my old ones have only done 6k)
- New inline fuel pump

I also have full spares I can try from my other running G40's.

One thing I'm thinking, is the microswitch in the throttle body that is activated when the pedal meets its full travel, either isnt activating, or is sending a duff signal, so the car isnt switching to the full boost map.

I've got a multimeter, does anyone know what I should be checking for when the full throttle switch is activated, I'm assuming I can test this manually without the car running, as the resistance should change?

It's not a massive issue all in all, as it means I'm driving the car more economically, which is always healthier on the wallet. But I would like to resolve it, just so I know its right.

Any ideas? If not, I'm gonna keep on having a play!

New sparkies are getting fitted after work, as they arrived in the post today, so will get some pics up on them now, as its always a good indication of how the cars running!

Check your leads with a multimeter to ensure they have continuity. I once bought some new leads from VW and one was faulty...

I've swapped the leads over from my Mk3 G40, which is running sweet, but it made no difference!

Fitted me new plugs no diff! Fitted some new Beru leads I borrowed off me turbo and all is right again. Bizarre how the mk3s leads didnt make a difference and on that it runs sweet! Think im ordering a couple of sets of leads this week then!

Checked the timing and it was good, 6 deg advance at 2k when in service mode. Just gotta tweak the idle too and all will be well again.

Engines coming out soon anyway so I can detail the bay, fit my helix paddle and a refurbed box but its always nice to know its working when its taken out!
