Post by: Oily Fingers on August 11, 2011, 10:28:40 PM
What the best way to remove the rubbers in the engine mounts to get the mounts powdercoated???? and also the best way to install the rubber back in.

Big vice, some choice wooden blocks and a massive flatblade screwdriver. Fairly liquid helps too - I washed it all off afterwards in case it attacked the rubber

I got pissed off and cut them out. But i upgraded to poly mounts. They had to be pressed in with a hydraulic press.

I got a set of these from the group buy too.
I'm a bit dissapointed at just flexible they are - in fact they feel no firmer than the OE ones. Maybe once pressed into the mounting body they will firm up?

i saw somewhere that a new one from VW wasn't too far off these poly ones.

Yeah i thought that, i thought they had been coated in poly but there still new mounts and do a better job than the old ones.

I got some off the group buy too, and wasn't too happy with them either. They only have a shore rating of .55 which is to the speck PSD set up.

I now have a set from Phil J and they are much harder, I think .65 annd are noticeably harder when not in the mount. Something like 20% harder than the poly ones and 40% stiffer than OEM

However they are only a prototype set, but i think he is getting some made up soon. I would pm him and ask
