Title: Radiator core differences
Post by: Jezza-7 on July 29, 2011, 12:26:47 PM
I got a new rad today and although it has the same oem number as my standard one it has less tubes/cores. How many people run the one with less cores? Do you find any real differences? I run an oil cooler and my water temp hardly ever went about 80.

Thats the difference with the pattern part radiators, they don't get OEM re-cores.  You'll be fine with the standard rad for general driving, but give it some beans and you will notice the car at a higher coolant temp than normal. More surface area for cooling = better.

Meh, my rad has the nong40 core and I've not had it overheat on track days with a turbo and 21psi of boost.

Wonder why that was? Turbo's generate more heat so thought you would get more of a problem with turbo rather than charger.

I'd say he needs to check his AFR if it's running that hot :)
