Title: Boost gauge
Post by: Jake G 4 0 on July 19, 2011, 05:40:30 PM
As above really I have t'd it into the FPR vacuum pipe and I was just wondering if this is the correct place??

Pics as well please.

Thanks Jake.

I put my T piece in about 2-3 inches from the ECU.

FPR pipe is the better one to use.  the cleaner the vac signal to the map sensor in the ecu is the better so I'd not tamper with that pipe.  It is intentionally a specific length too

is it possible to use the take-off thats normally blocked off with the BRV mod, front on the throttle body for the boost guage (and poss dump valve for those with turbos) and leave the FPR and ECU vac lines well alone?

does the FPR to the take-off on the brake servo want to be a specific length as well?

FPR isn't anywhere near as sensitive as a map sensor, it's just a diaphragm with a spring behind it so I'd not really worry about introducing any slight fluctuations in the vacuum signal to that.  Pretty sure ETKA doesn't list a pipe length to the FPR whereas it does for the map sensor

I'm pretty sure the little hose to ecu is ment to me 1 mtr long! You should put the t-piece on the fpr and not on the ecu hose!

no.  On a g60 it is something like 900mm but a g40 one is shorter, 600-odd I think.  The length is in EKTA/VAGCAT.

I'd forgot about that! I can't say I've noticed any problems and been running it for a few months. Apart from the little hesitation on idle/acceleration. I wonder if it's related to that?

might be, VW list a very specific length for some reason

ECU vac hose is 470mm. At least mine is, and it hasn't been cut to my knowledge.

Hi, a little off the subject, but didnt want to start a whole new topic for it:

I would like to place a boost gauge, but i really don't want to "sacrafice" my radio slot for some gauges.

where did you guys place yours? i m not really into a fancy gauge on top of my dash, i would like to stay as close as possible to the original looks..

Mine is still temporarily cable tied in kinda hanging out/ resting on the ashtray. I say temporarily...........I think it was June I put it in "just to see what boost I get" lol.
