Title: Revs dip when introducing throttle
Post by: jackson92 on July 15, 2011, 10:56:03 PM
The engine in my G has always suffered from a problem when introducing the throttle to set off or when blipping or reving it up, the revs drop momentarily causing sometimes to stall if not caught right, for the past couple of years ive just adapted to it and it will only catch you out when driving occassionally but surely it can't be right?.. after the momentary dip in revs it then revs fine when it gets the revs up and pulls strong with no missfires or blips throughtout the rev range once set off, any idea's?
I have recently changed the timing belt and is timed correctly, it did do it just the same before it was changed just to clear the timing issue up, appreciate any help guys!

Sounds like the ignition timing is out, have you got a timing light?

mine does this - and my timings spot on!, im starting to think its something to do with the vacuum lines. going to check them all today as my idle screw seams to be not effective at the moment

do you run the boost return mod?

Hi cheers for the replies, hayesey i will throw the timing light on it again tomorrow see what its doing cheers pal.
I don't run the boost return mod at the moment but i was going too in the near future, would this affect it?
also is it worth cleaning out the isv type/aux air valve on the rear of the block?

I have the same thing, had it on my first one and my golf too. I just learnt to live with it. Pain in the ass though, esp. pulling off from junctions when it's cold, occasionally catches me out halfway across the road when leaving work :/

My g40 does this aswell i was just searching through post to see if there was a cure are there any other possible things that would cause this to happen its very annoying!

The 1st things that I can think of that might cause this is,
Ignition timing, a little leek on the vacuum or inlet? what gasket do you use in-between your throttle body and inlet manifold? What condition is the throttle body in?

Another thing is it could be to do with your ecu, slight delay or maybe a slighty wrong chip?

I had an idle problem with mine a few years ago I swapped the throttle body over, and replaced the gasket with a good piece of thinner card than the gasket I made a template from the gasket/manifold on the card because the gasket had perished, its much better with better throttle response,

Still have the card in it now does not leak! lol!

(both throttles were de-wedged ones) It was prob the gasket that caused it because it had perished but I'm 100% sure i got a much better responce without the rubber gasket!

Replacing your coolant temp sender won't be a bad idear either!

it could possibly be to do with the ECU as i bought the car and it has a chip but i have no idea what kind or even if its the correct one.

im trying to get a timing light today to double check the timing also at idle the revs will drop then climb back up sometimes stalling compleatly

ive changed the blue temp sensor aswell it has a new lambda sensor but it was done before i got the car its a gsf one possibly could be that

it runs fine with the blue sensor unplugged tho

Ok buddy if it runs better with it unplugged you should just get a new one anyway!
Is yours a genuine one? The temp senders are a bit temperamental lol! Get one from vw!

Yea check the timing too, and go from there!

Get in contact with ppp tell them what setup you have and check your chip is correct
