Title: source a gemo clutch cable!
Post by: vwgolfR14 on June 03, 2011, 10:03:10 PM
was driving along tonight and clutch pedal dropped to the floor! so  got the car home and straight away started getting in about 9it to see what the problem was! found the problem which was the clutch cable is goosed, lookin through the net but dont know where to start to source a new one! all the cable says on it is "GEMO 434 933 0708" i have searched this on the net but cant find a match! as far as i am led to believe the car has a "organic clutch" i am sure is what the guy said when i bought it and it is manually adjustable! so any help on finding a new cable is muchly appreciated

^^^ when you've done it afew times! lol.

most fiddly part is getting the cable through  the bulkhead and hooked onto the pedal. Probably just me and really its easy.

Feed some string or wire through the bulkhead when you take the old cable off Jon. But you're right, I always find it a bit of a fiddle to get the "three square edge and 1 round edge" washer and rubber stoppers sat perfectly on the bulkhead.

If you fit a mk2 clutch cable that doesn't self adjust make sure you fit a spring to the clutch lever on top of the gearbox.

Found out that if you don't the clutch lever is being pulled against the bearings and ends up in a very heavy clutch.
Had to replace the lever, bearings etc.

The spring offers an equal force to the clutch cable and keeps everything lined up.

Hope that makes sense!

^ I thought this was the case when looking at mine lately. Fortunately it's not cooked the bearings yet and I'm still using an auto-adjust.
