Title: correct oil filter, and spark plugs
Post by: langersG40 on April 06, 2011, 11:41:20 AM
Hi all

just doing a oil and filter change on the G40 but GSF have supplied me with a Mann filter part number (W712/52) but i got my oil filter from VW last time and its bigger (same size as a mk1 golf) phoned GSF and they said the mann one is ok to use is it? also it got NGK spark plugs in it at the mo, which is best Bosch or NGK for the G40 engine??

many thanks

Chris

BP7EVX plugs by NGK or W5DPO by Bosch.

theres about 30 quid difference in price, i run NGK's currently, no probs on a standard and 170bhp G engine

polos normally have the smaller filters, it actually sounds like VW gave you the wrong one (or they have just standardised now).  You can use either although arguably, the bigger one is better because it can hold more oil in it and bigger filter surface area inside can flow oil quicker and clog up less soon.  Although the last point isn't really an issue unless you leave oil changes far too long.

But I've used both sizes of filter and haven't had problems with either.

I normally go for the smaller to avoid issues with it fouling the charger pipe (which is what I believe they are for) and the small ones come with the release nut on the end.
