orite guys, car failed the mot yesterday due to "corrosion" on brake line from front to rear. So before starting the job wanted to find out couple of things. Firsty i have the 256mm set up with the girling 54 calipers, so what size spanner is required for the bleed nipples and also what size are the nipples them selfs, m10x1.0? That goes for the rears aswell please.
Next is what is the correct/best procedure for bleeding the brakes with regards to the order in which to bleed and also whats the crack with the bias valve by the the rear axle.
cheers grant
Can't remember what size spanner you need for the bleed nipples, I think it was a 6mm when I did it. If your changing the pipes invest in a proper brake pipe spanner, it makes a difference.
I THINK, bleed sequence is back left, back right, front left, front right (although I've never found it matters much). The compensator needs to be tricked into thinking you have weight in the car so disconnect it and manually pull the arm down whilst you bleed the brakes.
I think Girling 54 calipers come with either small (7mm, early) or larger (11mm? later) nipples. I'm not sure about thread size.
Bleed order is listed at n/s/r, o/s/r, n/s/f, o/s/f in Haynes, but if you work by pipe length longest-shortest it should be o/s/r, n/s/r, n/s/f, o/s/f on a right-hand drive car.
cheers guys not being on here in a while, it was 7mm for the nipples. Got all my pipes renewed and bleed up ok
