Title: g40 not starting, fuel flooding the engine
Post by: dom101 on March 29, 2011, 11:06:30 PM
yo people,

car wner tinto garage as needed new bearings, and shaft after my one went compeltly tits up on motorway.

garege sorted all out then rang saying it wouldnt start and went down this morning, and they were saying the injectors keep flooding the engine with too much petrol and it jsut cuts out.

it turns over and when you unplug the injectors it runs fine with the fuel in the bores but then obv cuts out when runs out but the moemnt you plug the injectors in it jsut floods the engine?

bear in mind this seems to of happened over night, coudl it maybe be the fuel regulator and it to go overnight??

any ideas or help would be great as going down there agian in morning to try and sort it as need ym car back on the road.

cheers in advance

fuel pump relay can get corroded and isolate the 4pins. when this happends fuel pump doesnt stop, only if you unplug the battery.

it happend to me. the next day i couldn't even start the car because running out of bat and fuel pump got real hot.

everyhting else is running, ecu is int tact, im guessing faulty wiring maybe?

the injectors will only open if the ecu sends a signal to them or somehow the wiring in the your fuel rail is knackered and is shorting out.

I'd suspect either an ECU fault or fuel rail wiring.

The fuel pump is supposed to run all the time when the engine is running, this wont cause the injectors to open anyway.

if ecu fault how do i fix that, do i need to get it re programed? and can this happen all of a sudden. i spoek to to jabba sport and they said you can plug g40s or g60s in as even though they have them in the cars they were never activated?

how would i go about checking for a faulty wiring on the fuel rail and is this the the same rail as the injector rail? ive never touched anyhting to do with feul pumps and injectors befor. any help would be great.

also is there any chanc eit could be the dist cap? maybe it could have been  a damp night, will checktomo , jsut baffled me as it stopped over night

thanks in advance

if it's a knackered ECU then you fix it by replacing it.  It can be damaged by static, wiring shorting out, someone welding the car without disconnecting it.

To check the condition of the wiring just look at it firstly.  Then use a multimeter to test each wire for resistance.  Yes fuel rail is the same as the injector rail.

I don't see how a faulty distributor cap could possibly make the injectors open, the injectors are controlled by the ECU.

when replacing the ecu, its not a straigt forward swap , im guessing has to all be re set up?

mines had the stage two map already?

sorry if going on, jsut ive never toucoed on feul or ecu issues

It's just a straight swap.  If it has a chip in it then I'd try the standard one first, maybe it just that
