Title: Exhaust noise levels
Post by: gavin.starr on March 29, 2011, 05:58:34 PM
I have just put on my jetex exhaust and the centre silencer catches the heat shield under the car, no amount of jiggling it about will sort it.

I was going to go down to my local exhaust shop and get them to make a straight through pipe for it, but I don't know what it would sound like, has any one done or got this at the moment that could shed some light on how loud/un-loud it may be.

I'm trying to keep my car as sleeper'ish as possible so i dont want it to be too loud.

Depends on bore, also if your going to turbo it that will keep it pretty quiet if it's still supercharged single silencer systems can get load especially 2.25" + bore I had a 2.25" twin silenced system with twin exits abd it was horribly loud. Some people like it load though.

I had a standard exhaust on my first one, apart from the backbox being an unknown aftermarket make (it was something like Jetex). When the std centre pipe went I replaced it with a straight pipe and personally thought it sounded horrible, like a farty raspy metro or polo GT. not my cup of tea. I much prefer the standard system, I like the rumbling sound you can hear yet it's still quiet enough.
