Well, I just bought a G40 from a friend who has a bit of cash but who is a complete numpty. He tried to start the car and found the battery was dead (I found out why, alternator wire snapped off) so he got a new battery from the garage, He couldn't find any spanners so he decided to mash the terminal on with a brick :(. The lead terminal fell inside the battery, So he pulled it out and decided to try and jump start it. Put the jump leads on and what do you know the radio started smoking. So i bought it from him for ALOT cheaper than he payed. Got it home into the garage and found it had a 12v feed to the coil and a good earth. A pulse coming out of the dizzy but no pulse getting to the coil :S. When turning over the injectors work but no spark at all. So im thinking the ECU is fried. But why will the injectors fire ? So i wapped the board out of the ECU and got my friend round with his multimeter (He fixes circuit boards for domestic appliances for a living) He checked all the resistors and diodes etc but he said the only thing he cant test is the chip.
Does anyone have any ideas ? I've been at it all weekend and its stressing me out.
Thanks for reading.
BTW the car has also had a turbo conversion :)
Heres a crap pic from the garage i took at the weekend.

Your ECU is basically OK if you can hear the fuel pumps priming when you first turn the ignition to the on position. As the injectors are firing that also suggests it's basically OK. These only fire if the ECU is getting the correct signals from the dizzy and driving the injectors (therefore ECU 'chip' must be OK). The options are that the ECU drive output to the ignition coil/amp has failed or the coil/amp itself is faulty or the dizzy cap/ignition leads have failed. I would first check the earths are all OK. The smoking stereo suggests a wiring issue somewhere (possibly the broken alternator wire?). There should be an earth strap from the coil to the gearbox side engine mount. Check this is OK as this is an earth for the ECU loom as well as the coil.
Have a look at this link for details of how to fix the ECU if the ignition drive has failed, but I wouldn't start messing with the ECU until you have checked everything else.

The coil has been replaced as that was my first port of call, I should of mentioned that in the OP. I fixed the altanator wire too. The earths are fine with little no resistance back to the battery. That transistor option looks like top advise mate. I might actually dig out the overalls and head up to the garage. I'll let you know how i get on.
EDIT: If you can mate will you save the pic from that topic and upload it to here? I'm waiting for a admin to activate my account. And cant see the picture.
Fixed- Life saver, Thanks soooo much guys. top work
so what was it in the end then?
The transistor in the ECU.
if the radio smoked it was because they but the jump leads the wrong way round thats why the ecu went to.
