I solved the problem with the spluttering im possitive it was a coil pack.

Ive got a new problem naw everytime i give it the beans i come to a slow and there a loud tapping noise ill drive it slow for about 10 mins and it goes...

is it when the car is hot? like a motorway run?

could be tappets are gunked up

no it will get hot and be fine its only when i belt it for a few mins of hard driving?

yeh - thats normally when its hottest!

does it sounds like a raspy old fiesta?

I had the same issues mate, when oil was overheating and i had low oil pressure... I've fitted a oil cooler since then and never had problems again...

yes pete sounds like an old CVH engine ........ after a while it seems to clear.? any ideaS?

its oil which is very hot... but its compounded by filthy tappets.

Either service (as per guide on club gti) or replace tappets.

or

fit an oil cooler to stop the oil getting so hot

or both

Tappet probs for me too (just one) so that will be handy, but any idea off hand what new tappets cost.I'm thinking about £25 a piece.

they cost about £6 each, but there are 8 of em
